ACT Writing Test

Will a college reject you based on not taking the writing portion if they "require" it? Say I took the ACT before I decided to apply to this college?

I actually plan to take it again, but am wondering if its worth dishing out the extra $$$mula.

if they require it, i think that means that if you don't have it, then you are outright rejected.
