Retin A dried my skin out very badly when I used it. They tell you to avoid the sun completely while using it but with all the flaking skin, putting any sort of sunscreen or protective make-up on was a mess. I didn't see much change in the acne problem either.

I've heard a lot of good things about Proactiv but haven't had any experience with it.

I used to use Differin gel, which is similar to Retin-A, but much milder...I never experienced very dry skin while using it. I loved it...cleared me up, made my skin happy. It did make me very sun sensitive, though, so sunscreen was a must.

Proactiv didn't help me that much.

I tried differin and i liked that except for the fact that my skin was dried out very badly. I tried Retin A. I hated it. It dried out my skin really bad and didn't really do much to help the acne. Right now I'm trying the Natural products from Bath and Body works. But its too soon to tell if its working yet.

I use differin too. It doesn't work completely...but it helps a lot. I get about a quarter of the acne I would get without it.

I also have to use a really good exfoliator on top of it.

Proactiv did not work for me I've also heard that the ingredients in proactiv can worsen wrinkling, which, at my age is as big of a concern as acne.

BCP's clear me up completely though..I've thought about taking them just for my skin!

My DD12 started having breakouts about a year ago. Dermalogica has been a godsend! She had her first facial yesterday and the gal reminded her that she needs to drink a lot of water to keep her skin clear also.

I use a product you can get at Wal-mart/target called AcneFree- it's supposed to be like proactive. It really works better than anything else I have tried!! It's a combo of benzoyl peroxide and salycilic acid (sp?). Actually, when I worked at Wal-mart a customer was looking for this product because she had tried proactive, then AcneFree- and didn't notice a difference. Her skin looked great, so I decided to try it too. I really like it. But beware- it will bleach your clothes!
Also, you must use it every morning and every night, without fail- if I miss even one time I will break out!

I have tried Retin A- hated it. Made my face so sensitive and peeled like crazy. Then I tried Differen gel, and hated it too. I was also on oral meds- didn't work.
