When producers for the upcoming movie "Miracle" put out a casting call for skilled hockey players to come and try out for supporting roles, some WHL alumni took the opportunity to get back on skates.

Former WHL player Brent Thurston took time away from his consulting career in Vancouver, BC to join the Walt Disney cast and crew on location in his hometown of North Delta, BC to don a Russian jersey in the portrayal of Alexander Maltsev, a former player from the once mighty Russian Hockey Federation.

Joining Brent in the portrayal of former Russian stars were fellow Western Hockey League alumni Mike MacWilliam, Tim Preston, Jeff Jubenville and Randy Favaro. MacWilliam portrays the legendary Slava Fetisov, Jubenville as Vladimir Petrov, while Preston and Favaro play two-thirds of the famous Russian "K-L-M" line in Vladimir Krutov and Sergei Makarov respectively. As well, current WHL referee Pat Smith was cast in the role as a linesman.

I also know Jeff Jubenville but not nearly as well.

That is so cool! I just took DS tonight to see it. It was really good, we both enjoyed it.

Very cool, Robin - That was an excellent movie - my kids were even glued to the screen - 'Thursty' did an awesome job!

I thought it was great that they cast people with real hockey experience instead of just actors who could skate. It made the scenes on the ice that more realistic.

Im going to try to see it sometime this week my sitter couldnt make it today :(

uhhh sure Kim.... Ill uhhh let you know ;) :)
