okkk....long story BUT we wont be able to go in may now(booo hoooo) the earliest we can go is the first week of June.I am picturing sweltering heat and BAD crowds. Please anyone everyone who has been at the parks at this time help out.CM's anybody!!!!!Is this a very bad time to go?we can delay till after August if we need to,TIA!!! :flower1:

From the standpoint of weather, you won't have SWELTERING heat -- it won't be that much different than it would have been in May. It's not like May is warm and balmy and then on June 1 it all of a sudden spikes and hits record temps. You're far more likely to hit the sweltering heat and humidity in August and September, actually.

The first week of June is usually Gay Days, so you'll have those crowds to contend with, plus any regular summer "school is out" crowds. But again, it's not like in mid-May you'll be walking through an empty park and on June 1 it's all of a sudden shoulder-to-shoulder.

If you're going to wait until after August, then go in October. If you can't wait that long, then go in June. You'll be fine.

hahahha,,i guess my post was kinda dumb.Picture this..WDW in may...lovely blue skies,,,,birds singiing,,perfect weather....I dance with Tinkerbell and we eat grilled cheese sandwiches in the castle....no waiting in line..THEN BBBAMMMM!! June 1st,,,the temp is 150 degrees in the shade,,,,a kid throws up on me...I stand in line all day for 1 ride,,just when I am about to get on..it breaks down and the park closes.Mickey is too hot to don his full costume..so its some grouchy guy with just a tail flipping all the guests off.Sorry,,,,didnt mean to be so dramatic,BUT i do live in the South and i know weather can change in a months time.......anymore thoughts on June?also.....crowds,,,,,I like to avoid them,,is this possible AT ALL for the first week?,,,,,and one more,,,does anyone know a general idea of the hours? we will do MGM and AK i think,,,,,

We've been going the first week of June for several years, prior to that we went the end of May.

It will be warm in June, in fact it can be HOT, but since you live in the South you know how flaky the weather can be...you never really know. Crowds are certainly busier than "off peak", but are still very negotiable. Avoid the MK, if possible, on any Saturday during the summer months, it WILL be crowded, no matter what group is visiting. Remember, Orlando and WDW are also convention destinations, and may convention people also bring their families. Many conventions have Saturday and Sundays as "non-convention" days, so that is when the folks that travel with their family hit the parks...plus the locals.

We go the first two weeks of june every year. It can be hot.. but then the very common afternoon rainshower will clean the air and cool things off.

The crowds are worst at the MK and on the weekends otherwise they really aren't bad at all.

We love this time because most schools are not out so it isn't super crowded. Just drink lots of water, take your afternoon breaks, utilize fast pass and EMH and you will have a great time. :)

What are "gay days"? My family and I (me, dh, ds14 and ds11) are going on our first trip to WDW from june 4th to June 11th. Just curious as to what this may be.

Gaydays is an unofficial gathering of gays/lesbians in early June, always in the first weekend. Except for the Saturday at the MK, traditionally the busiest day, crowds aren't a major issue. I gather from the websites the group has split in two this year, one focusing on WDW and the other on Universal. www.gaydays.com and www.gayday.com are the websites to check for schedules. Aside from crowds, there isn't any problems during the week. Pleasure Island is usually very busy and will be a fairly adult atmosphere, perhaps more then usual. We've been there twice during it and aside from noticing a lot of red shirts(the t-shirts they do for it are red) it's status quo. Check the websites for the park of the day to advoid higher crowds. Early June is much less crowded then later in the month, and a littler hotter/humid then May. And the Flower and Garden festival is ongoing too. August is worse for weather though, not that June is pleasant either. Summer is hot and humid in Orlando, it's simply a matter of how hot and humid. I like early June and it's probably better then August. One caveat, the hours may still be short in early June. They have been the past few years-but they weren't on trip 6 years ago. May simply depend on the crowd levels.

Thanks for the website. We'll be skipping MK on Saturday and Epcot on Sunday after looking at the schedule - not because of any particular issues, but beating a crowd is beating a crowd. OK, I have a question, someone mentioned a common afternoon rainshower in June. Do the rides and stuff still operate when it rains? Can we don rain ponchos and continue with our tour of the parks or do we need to have a rain contingency in our plan? We are not sugarcubes so we don't melt...... :rotfl:

Some rides will shut down for thunderstorms because of lightning hazards. I know Test Track shuts down, and I would assume many "outdoor" rides. Boat transportation and watercraft also shut down in thunderstorms. Outdoor shows, like Fantasmic!, shut down.

I asked a CM about the crowd patterns due to the celebration and she said May is the same as normal (probably because of school) but she said the summer reservations are up 15% so far from last year. That's a lot, being that the summer is already packed. ::MickeyMo
