ACK!!!!! Tell me about Boma!!!!

Thank you so much to everyone for their wonderful feedback and guidance.

After a great deal of thought, my "gut" tells me that this restaurant would likely be a very bad choice for our family. And that's okay because, honestly, it's a good distance from our resort and would be completely out of our way. If we were staying at AKL, then I'd probably just go ahead and try it since we'd be there anyway; but, since it's so far out of the way and my "gut" is telling me that it's not a good fit for our family, I've cancelled our ADRs.

Due to a suggestion by someone on here (THANK YOU!) I have tentatively booked ADRs at Kouzzina. It doesn't get the best reviews, but it's close to our resort and fits the bill of being "different." Furthermore, it will force us to go to the Boardwalk, which is something we completely missed last time. Add to that that the ADRs are for 6:55, it sounds like we'll see Boardwalk at night, which is something I really wanted to do anyway but likely would've shrugged it off due to other schedule constraints. So I'm thinking Kouzzina might be a good compromise.

Thank you again for the honest feedback and guidance! Y'all are awesome!

YAY! I'm glad that you feel good about it. We have been to the World several times and this was our first visit to the Boardwalk as well. We LOVED it and I am CONSIDERING trying to stay there next visit. (ALTHOUGH it will be very hard to tear me away from our regular resort). You know, after you have dinner at Kouzzina's you could head over to Beach Club and split a Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream! YUMMY!

We had a fabulous time at Kouzzina this past summer! I highly recommend it. We'll be going back this June! :thumbsup2

Our family really liked Boma. I don't remember any of the food being sweet or spicy except for a few items. Both our kids DD7 and DS4 ate their fair share too. They are adventurous eaters and prefer foods besides chicken fingers and mac-n-cheese.

Ugghh! Since changing my ADRs to Kouzzina and thinking I had it all squared away, I talked to MIL who talked me into going back and rebooking Boma. She thinks that it would be fun to try something completely different and that it would be okay if we all walked away hating it. So, I REbooked it for a day that we're eating 3 TS restaurants. That way we won't be starving.

::sigh::

We stayed at the AKV and few years ago. The hotel wasn't worth the points (DVC). The food was the worse we have even had in WDW.

LOL! That's always the way it goes! Well at least now if nobody likes it they can't blame you! Did you keep Kouzzina reservation?

Different strokes for different folks. We LOVE AKL, and we're staying AKV on rented points to decide if we're going to buy in or not. Boma is a MUST DO on every trip, and I am still saddened at the fact that I didn't get to eat there last trip.

Sometimes you just can't win!

I hope you do enjoy it after all - be sure to come back on and tell us if it was a success for you (and for MIL)!

I didn't, but now that I've so seriously considered it, I'm looking to see if there's a way to fit it in by moving something else out. LOL

Well, IMHO, if you have Teppan Edo, switch! :lmao:

I do not like sweet foods either and found plenty of food to eat there.

I've eaten at Boma twice... both times, LOVED it. I don't remember the food being to "sweet".

Our first experience there was a few years ago... myself, DH, and our two girls who were 6 and 4 at the time. I remember especially liking the ribs, I'm sure DH loved everything he tried. Our DDs mostly ate off the children's buffet, but our oldest wanted to try a few items of the "regular" buffet and ended up enjoying a few things. The saffron rice(?) and "potatoes with Afritude" being dishes she loved.

Our second time dining at Boma was just last October. This trip my family traveled with my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and their two kids (ages 5 and 9). We (being myself, DH, and our DDs) wanted to go back and the rest of our party was fine with going there (this being their first time to WDW ever, they trusted our opinion of where to go/what to do!) My BIL enjoyed the food so much, he wanted to go back!

I think in the end, you'll be glad to give it a try. I definitely recommend Boma to friends and family, and would eat there again on any return trip to WDW!

Thank you all so very much! I really appreciate all of the wonderful feedback. I'm still a bit concerned about whether it's "sweet," so I'l be back at the end of June to let y'all know whether *I* think it's sweet. :) Worst case scenario is we get a snack when we leave or - if we have any extra credits - maybe just another counter service meal. :)

I am more of a savory person than sweet and we ate there on our last visit and it was great. The carved meat is not sweet, soup was not sweet, salads were fine. If you're a picky eater it might not be for you since different spice combonations are incorporated into the food but if you're open to new things I think it's definitely worth a try.

I can safely say to those who don't understand and think "we" don't know what we are referring too, but I do know what sweet is and I do understand how to describe it.

Not that I will debate this, but I feel compelled to say this.
I know what I know, it isn't that "it is foods I am not familar with" or that I don't understand that these spices are used in sweet foods, therefore I equate that to desserts.

I agree. I was raised on "different" food, Indian, Chinese/Thai, Middle-Eastern etc... I know what spices taste like. Chicken Korma isn't sweet, although there are almonds and coconut in it. But most of Boma's dishes DO taste sweet, in a different way. That's the reason why we like it so much.

For one thing they put raisins in many of their sides (veggies, rice), and raisins are 70% sugar so obviously it's going to make them taste sweet.
The bottom of the salmon is caramelized, again, that's sugar.
Can't tell you about the meat because I don't eat any.

OP, considering what you told us about your dislike of any sweet food, I doubt you'll enjoy Boma very much.
