Came home from dinner last night and decided to watch a the last few Chuck's we had recorded and BAM...almost everything on my DVR is gone! 8 Episodes of Boardwalk Empire, the last 2 Chuck's, about 6 episodes of Shark Men and some others. It went from have 54% capacity to 98%! :scared1:

I have no idea what happened. The babysitter was here (woman in her 50's) so it is possible either she or my 2 yo DD deleted all that stuff, but that would be odd.

Thankfully I can watch Chuck online and the season finale of Grey's is still there. :thumbsup2 Just so very weird.

as far as I know..if it's anything like ours..you have to physically delete every single program individually..if there's anything at all left on it..the dvr didn't do it by itself. Someone had to erase some and leave the rest ...try unplugging it from the wall, wait 30 seconds..then plug it back in and let it reboot itself and see if anything changes..if not, I would say , sorry, but I would suspect the babysitter..I can't see a 2 year old doing that on purpose!

I had it happen with a Comcast DVR. Lost the entire second season of "Heroes". The DVR reset iterlf and the programming could not be recovered.

Eh, turns out the second season of "Heroes" stunk anyway and i never watched another episode of it.

Actually, this was a very common (relatively speaking) problem with older Motorola DCx DVRs, used by various cable companies (including, but not limited to, Comcast). It's one reason why I kept buying new TiVos; they didn't have such problems.

I had that happen several times when we had Directv. They kept saying it shouldn't happen but it did. Now that we have AT&T Uverse it has not happened.

Hulu.com might have some of those shows you can watch

Happened to us last fall.
It was an outage that caused it and did something to the receiver. They replaced the whole receiver since they think it was defective.
this was Cox and we had it for only about 2-3 months.

It happened to us with AT&T Uverse. They advised us to reboot the system weekly. We haven't had any trouble since.

We had that happen with both Comcast and AT&T Uverse boxes. In both cases, it signaled that the box was going to die in the very near future - IIRC, once the recordings were lost, the box died within two weeks or so.

the DVR i had crashed and lost everything

Cable company said...oh well :confused3

It was so bizarre because not everything was deleted, only some things. We were able to watch Chuck online and we can watch Boardwalk Empire too. Just a mystery I guess. The kids say that no one deleted anything.

We have DirecTv
