Ack!! Attack of the dry skin. What's your remedy?

Gold Bond Ultimate Healing is the only thing that works for me. My daughter has really bad eczema, and we cover her from neck to feet in Vaseline each night, and then she wears "footie" pajamas to bed. This is the first winter that she hasn't cracked and bled.

The only problem I really have in the winter is dry hands (probably from washing them more to avoid flu). Neutrogena hand cream (small tube, about $3.50 at Target) is the BEST. Just a little dab will do the trick, and it's not greasy at all. Miracle product!

Drinking water does actually help to a certain extent (its one of the things a friend was told to do for her cracked lips). Taking lots of showers and baths without using a moisturizing soap or other bath additive will dry your skin out more. Hot water will also strip your skin of oil more than warm water.

I LOVE Lush, and a lot of their bath bombs and other bath time treats have moisturizing oils in them, so I drop in a fizzy treat and have silky skin when I am done. I don't like using a lot of lotion because it makes my hands feel icky, but I also love their massage bars - they are basically solid lotion that you warm up in your hand and then rub over your body instead of dealing with messy lotions.

On the cheaper, likely to be in your local store route, Vaseline used to make moisturizing bath salts, not sure if they still do, but I liked those, too. I'm more into fruity scents, which are hard to find in quality products, which is why I'm so into Lush. :)

I also love their lip scrubs and lip balms. They soak right into the skin and don't leave a waxy coating.

Just like bboyneko and MamaMouse I also use Eucerin for my dry skin. And while I love that I'm not the only one who relies on this great product I must disagree with a few thing that bboyneko said. I do some work with Eucerin so I know that it is not only for SEVERE dry skin but for all skin types. Also you CAN use Eucerin on your face but if you are worried about breaking out try one of their face lotions, like Everyday Protection Face Lotion. A few other helpful tips: don't take really hot showers, it will dry out your skin more. Also, apply lotion right as you get out of the shower while your skin is still damp, it will help lock in moisture. And as always, drink lots of water! Feedback is always welcome, let me know if this has helped you!

I've purchased some Eucerin and brought a room humidifier for 2 of the bedrooms.
I love, love hot showers so I'm trying to wean myself slowly to lowering the water temp. :lmao:
Of course it doesn't help that we're in an unseasonally cold spell here.

thanks again all

When my son was taking Accutane his skin was literally splitting and bleeding. The dermatologist recommended Aquaphor - it saved him.

I like Aveeno with oatmeal. It keeps my skin as happy as it can be this time of year.

The only thing I've found to really help my body is Neutrogena Moisture Wrap (i was getting VERY dry itchy shins). As for my hands....i think i've tried everything and NOTHING works for my thumbs. Might go to derm THey are hard, peeling, disgusting.
I have autoimmune issues so wondering if it's something other than just dry skin.

This may sound odd but coconut oil. I rub it on my face every night. And haven't had any problems with dry skin. Which by this time in Florida I would look like leatherface. All peeling and stuff yucko! My wellness lady told me it can be used all over the body too. I also take coconut oil capsules and fish oil as well. This is the first year my hair and face haven't been all dry and flaky.

I have dry skin to begin with and the cold just isn't helping. These are great suggestions but may I ask what one does for VERY CHAPPED LIPS?!

Ugh. Mine are peeling, they look gross and they're painful. Anyone have suggestions?

I was having a horrible time with this as well. Was at the Food and Wine and Rinse had a little booth. My lips were cracked and bleeding. http://www.rinsesoap.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=33&zenid=8221d9067f9b72f7c74b3a4a190ae927
As soon as I put these on overnight they had healed. I am sold! I also use coconut oil on my lips too when I can't locate my balms.

The dry chapped lips....a funny story
I said to my daughter the other day that her lips looked really, really dry and chapped. She told me that she liked the yummy Apple cider lip gloss that I had given her a little too much. She would put it on and lick her lips, and reapply wayyyy too often! Moral of the story, make sure your lip gloss isn't too yummy!!

I recommend coconut oil, and or lard (Crisco) it makes your skin so soft! It also makes you smell yummy too, watch out though, don't get to close to flames or you might ignite:scared1::rotfl:

Carmex will clear them up but beware it tastes horrible. I use vaseline. The dermatologist told me that sometimes anything else can irritate and make them dryer. (I had a reaction to plain chapstik).

I use Aquaphor healing ointment. It is the only thing that keeps my lips from being painfully dry and cracked all winter. I keep a small tube with me all the time and make sure I am vigilant about reapplying.

As far as lotions, I haven't really found one that works perfectly yet. I plan on trying the Jergens one mentioned earlier in the thread. Coconut oil also sounds like it might be worth a shot!

Has anyone use those socks/gloves with aloe in them-do they work? My fingers crack and bleed every winter, not matter what I do and they HURT. I was wondering if those aloe gloves help at all.

Tepid water in your shower (no HOT water).
Humidify the air at home.
Stay well hydrated (try ice water- always tastes better to me).
Pat dry after shower and apply lotion immediately.
No soap on arms and legs.

For my lips, I swear by Smith's Rosebud Salve. I always keep a tin of it in my purse. I even dab a little around my eyes when I'm traveling by air to keep from looking dehydrated around the eye area. It comes in a good size tin and lasts a long time.

For all over moisture my skin is really liking Sephora brand Super Supreme Body Butter.
