ACK!! Another Snowstorm!-DC Area

We got about 3 1/2 inches of snow down here and now it's all rain. The side streets in the subdivisons are a slushy mess, but all the main roads are just fine.

We weren't supposed to get anything more than a "light wintery mix" with no accumulations expected before turning over to rain with a slight rumble of thunder possible.

What a crock!

I'm East of I-95, South of Old Town. We still have a lot of snow coming down. Just checked the radar - doesn't look too promising for now, but I do see a clearing area to the West, about one or two counties over.

Would be nice if the temps come up & this stuff melts or gets washed away by rain.

agnes!

I'm in Clarksburg. I went out to shovel my driveway (holds 2 cars bumper to bumper) and by the time I got to the end there was another 1" of snow at the beginning. Look on the positive side.......it could all be ice!!
Now the sad news...my dad drives a school bus and in Mont. Co. the kids are allowed 5 snow days. If they don't get to school tomorrow it will be day #5, then they will start adding days to the end of the school year. The problem.....we are supposed to start our Grand Gatherings the day after school. :confused3 Now we are thinking we need to reschedule our Disney tirp so he will be able to go. You gotta luv winter in the metro area!

There's no way I would be cancelling my vacation because of the schools adding days onto the end of the year. The grades will most likely already be in by that time and a couple days missed at the end of the year won't make any difference.

I know when they entended our school days, the teachers actually told our kids not to bother coming to school because they would just be doing busy work. It's all a numbers game, schools have to be open so many days a year even if the kids don't do anything worthwhile. Sad, but true.

By the way, it is still snowing here in Bowie. We are now up to 5 inches on the ground.

We've got several inches in Arlington at this point.

I'm a little worried - I start a new job tomorrow at Regan National Airport! :thumbsup2

I wonder how that's going to play out.......:rotfl2:

Up in North Mongomery County MD it's still snowing. Woke up to freezing something about 8, turned to snow later and hasn't stopped. So much for "don't worry, little accumulation expected."

DH is headed out to shovel the drive shortly so we can try to get to work tomorrow. No sign of a snow plow, though.

No way I'd be cancelling either.

BTW, I'm a teacher...and even our yearly attendance is done before the last day of school. Report cards are finalized & printed about 3 days before the last day (this gives the principal a chance to read & review each one.) The students are automatically counted as "PRESENT" on all of the final days.

I'm in Gambrills....still snowing like crazy.

I'm in Frederick and it didn't start here until around 9am. We've got about 5 inches already! I did go out earlier, around noon. Roads weren't bad, but getting worse. That stupid groundhog lied to us!

We have ~6" on the ground and nothing's coming down now - I'm west of Manassas near I-66. Was just out for a quick grocery run and roads are getting much better, many parking lots have been plowed. It's not supposed to refreeze tonight (maybe like we were supposed to get freezing rain instead of snow ;) ?) so I'm going to vote a 2 hour delay. If it freezes tonight, all bets are off....

I've never seen weathermen as bad as the ones in the DC area when it comes to predicting snow. They absolutely suck!

Isn't that the truth? :lmao: DH just said the exact thing to me a few minutes ago. You can pretty much count on the weathermen to have it wrong EVERY time. :lmao:

Although I do have to say if its going to snow, better it happen on a Sunday when I have nowhere to go. I'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

Weather.gov is showing it going down to 31 tonight -- sounds like it will refreeze. Hopefully, most schools will just be late tomorrow. It supposed to get up to 44 degrees, so maybe most of this will melt away tomorrow.
