If you can call it that.

On Friday night, they were calling for a "wintry mix" to start on Sunday. This thing started in the middle of the night last night. The news, this morning, said that *my* area would get less than 1/2 inch of snow. Right now I have 4 inches on my deck. The plow has been down my street twice and the street is covered again.

I just know the kids will be off school tomorrow. I'm not sure if I prefer that or the dreaded "2-hour delay."

What's worse is we were set to have Wegman's Ultimate Chocolate Cake and Ice Cream in the office tomorrow (boss's birthday). I missed a $40 German Chocolate Cake last year for his birthday due to snow. I really, really wanted the Wegman's cake tomorrow.

ACK is right. Over here in Bowie they have been down our street with the plow and you can't even tell. I knew when January was sooo mild that we would be hating life come February.

You know...it's because they said this wouldn't be a big storm...I'm not supposed to get anything but rain today...well the plow is going down my street as I type...I don't usually worry when they call for the "big one" because they're always wrong....we get the "big one" when they call for nothing.

1/2 inch here in B-more already.

We went tubing in Pa last night and had a blast I'm just glad I have nothing to do today.

It looks nice but each day off cut DD grad night a bit closer to our trip and thats not good at all.

I've never seen weathermen as bad as the ones in the DC area when it comes to predicting snow. They absolutely suck!

I haven't been out lately but my neighbor just measured the snow on her deck: up to 5 inches now. Plow just came down for the third time.

Over here in Gambrills with no plow down our street yet.
We won't get plowed until sometime tomorrow for sure.

I'm a teacher & hoping for a 2 hour delay!!! :thumbsup2
(Don't want the whole day off...already used up our 4 snow days built-in to the calendar).

I'm surprised you only have 1/2 inch in Baltimore. We probably have 3 here in Bowie. When I looked at the weather online last night, the major storm was supposed to hit Howard County and North. Here in Bowie were in the mostly freezing rain area and were basically supposed to get next to nothing.

I'm going to measure to see exactly what we've got so far.

Edited to add 1:10 pm Sunday -- 3-3/4 inches in Bowie so far.

I just checked a spot I know was clear on the roof today earlier and it's now just over an Inch but it's a wet snow and coming down at a good rate right now.

NoVa road report

We were out this morning, were trying to go to Old Town for brunch but gave up.

The roads are BAD, pure & simple. Very slick junk underneath all the fluffy snow/frozen snow that is now on top. In my neighborhood, south of Old Town, we have at least 4 or 5 or 6 inches. We've shoveled the driveway twice, but this stuff is falling so fast you can't tell.

I was driving when we started out this morning (we only ended up going about three blocks from our house). When I got up after 9am, nothing was sticking. By the time we headed out around 10:30...nasty nasty nasty. Cars are sliding all over the place, my traction-control/antilock brakes came on several times. There is no ice/snow melt available in any stores near us.

DO NOT GET OUT ON THE ROADS, unless you absolutely MUST.

agnes!

and they said 1-2" of snow for us, then mixing with freezing rain with 'accumulations'..well I hate to tell the weatherman, but we have 6" on the ground now, but the sun is out and the sky is blue..so it must be heading out of town already!

I haven't been out lately but my neighbor just measured the snow on her deck: up to 5 inches now. Plow just came down for the third time.

We've got about 5 inches as well, and we're just up the road from you (in Springfield). I headed out this AM to hit the commissary, and the roads were horrendous...then got there to find out that they had closed the commissary less than 5 minutes before.

Our neighborhood hasn't been plowed yet, and I doubt it will be. Last week, the plows didn't come until late (around 9:00 PM) on Wednesday night.

Don't hate me, but I much prefer this to the ice we got week before last...that was horrible where I was...we lost our power, but were lucky because we got ours back after only 18 hours...some people in AA Co were w/o power for five days.

We still haven't cleaned all the limbs up from that

Well, my neighbor and my husband have both been out. My neighbor just *HAD* to go to Target. Both said that the roads weren't horrendous anymore (they were really bad about 10:30 this morning) but they aren't great either.

I'm in Clarksburg. I went out to shovel my driveway (holds 2 cars bumper to bumper) and by the time I got to the end there was another 1" of snow at the beginning. Look on the positive side.......it could all be ice!!
Now the sad news...my dad drives a school bus and in Mont. Co. the kids are allowed 5 snow days. If they don't get to school tomorrow it will be day #5, then they will start adding days to the end of the school year. The problem.....we are supposed to start our Grand Gatherings the day after school. :confused3 Now we are thinking we need to reschedule our Disney tirp so he will be able to go. You gotta luv winter in the metro area!

Christine -

I think you're a little South of us, the roads around you are probably in better shape. Up here *anyone* who goes out on the roads now or until they are treated/plowed or until some of this junk melts?...they're taking their lives into their own hands. I hate to think about what our neighborhood streets will be like tomorrow...ugh.

It's that bad. And believe me, I'm no shrinking violet when it comes to winter/bad weather. I grew up in West Virginia, lived in Fargo ND, graduated from college in Minnesota...I *know* bad.

agnes!

We've got more than 6 inches here and about an hour ago the snowflakes were coming down like already-made snowballs! Poke me with a fork; I'm done with snow. :sad2:

Uuugghhh! Well, I know the kids will be off tomorrow. No doubt about it now. I guess I will just go in late. I can't afford anymore leave. I won't go in at my usual 5:30 a.m. There's just no need to try to slide into work. Probably if I wait until 9:00 a.m. I will do just fine (and I'll still get to try the Wegman's Chocolate Cake!).:)
