HEEEEELLLPPP!!!!

My BIL, who lives with us, rescued a cat a couple of weeks ago! Tonight we found little white things that were falling out of his booty!!!

The vet says it tapeworms...he was sleeping on my bed!!!! There were tapeworm larvae on my BED!!!!

I am freaking out!!!!!!!! I have never had parasites in home!!!!! What the heck to I do!!!

I have stripped the sheets, and plan on vacuuming the entire house!!!

I am so skeeved out....I don't want a tapeworm!!!
I hope my title doesn't get me in trouble!!

****

Take the "A" out and just let it be *** or else it's considered attempting to bypass the filter and you can get in trouble. Oh, and good luck. :teeth:

First of all, where is your rating for this post??? I would give it a **** for pee-worthy, if not for the laugh factor, then for the "I'm so grossed out I could pee" factor.

You would think that there would be another warning for tapeworms besides larvae falling out of the ***. This seems like it would be a late-in-the-game kind of development. :scared1:

ugh --- Those bring back fears when bringing a sick, stray kitty into a house.
This is going way back into my memory bank, but it seems like a recall those (ugh) tapeworms cannot live outside a body for long. :confused3
You might try a search. I would do that -- but don't want to have those visions and info blazed into my brain! :rotfl2:

Oh, there's that rating....:thumbsup2

Ummmmmm....I just had to throw in a few of these!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

And, as for recommendations: throw everything out...furniture, dishes, carpet...and shave your head like Brittany!:confused3

Been there, done that.

Harley had tapeworms for days before we noticed - AND he slept in our bed! I finally noticed these tiny white pieces of rice in the sheets and asked someone about them. Talk about a gross out.

The pieces you find are the segments off the tapeworm. They wiggle a little when they come out but then dry up. You would have to swallow the wiggly worm to get tapeworm, if I remember right from my reading. My vet told me it'd be next to impossible for US to get it - even if we were sleeping admist the little wiggly things!

I've grossed myself out again.

Just treat the dog (which I'm sure the vet already did) and it should go away. Tapeworms usually come from fleas so be sure your dog is flea free. Harley was, so our vet concluded he must have picked one up out in the yard somewhere from a squirrel. Vet told me squirrels carry lots of tapeworms...

Sorry - just read it's not a dog but cat! =)

OMG:scared1: I don't know what to do,:confused3 but good luck:laundy:

As far as the worms, that happened to us many years ago. Yes, many (about 21-22), and I remember it like it was yesterday. :rotfl: Totally gross to think about, but they clean up easy and are not too hard to get rid of, if I remember correctly.

RELAX
Yes it is gross beyond imagination but trust me you won't get tapeworm.
When we first got our dog (a shelter/rescue dog) she slept on our bed for a few nights:scared: before we found out she had tapeworm. Vet treated her and there weren't even any specific instructions for us to follow regarding cleaning and what not. If I remember correctly the vet told us that in order to get the worm we would have to eat infected excretions :scared1: So unless that's your thing I would say you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure you clean all sheets/blankets etc :thumbsup2

Yea, count me in on the tapeworm deal, our dog had this and I noticed it one morning whenever we were laying together :scared1: . You have nothing to worry about, just wash your sheets and you'll be fine...I also freaked out but everything turned out fine like it will for you, I even called my doctor for some sort of antibodicts and they laughed at me

Did you happen to see House last week? When they cut open that girl and pulled out the 25 ft tapeworm? Man that was gross.

dont worry you cant get THE TAPES : ) I work at a vet clinic and it cant happen trust me . Tapes are from Fleas and cant be passed to humans . Get some frontline and put it on once you get rid of the fleas.

You would be more likely to get worms if you had been outside digging in the garden and forgot to wash your hands before you ate something. For instance: if you had been out picking strawberries and picked a strawberry and put it in your mouth.

Yep! You have to actually eat the live tapeworms to get it. Once they are dried up they are dead and you cannot get infected. Same with roundworm. To be infected, you would have to touch the cat or dog stuff (or ground they pooped in) and then lick your fingers as the eggs are in the fecal matter (or dirt). As long as you wash your hands before sticking your fingers in your mouth, you are all set!
