Well, I know I made another announcement recently, a happy one about us going to WDW in June to celebrate Bill's birthday and go to Star Wars Weekend. Sometimes things in life makes your plans change.
Bill has been having 100's of muscle spasms a day in his right ankle causing chronic pain. Lately it has become almost unbearable. He took a day off last week from his internship so I could take him to an orthopedic surgeon.
Bill has had many surgeries in the past, most of these were tendon releases to stop the constricture of the muscles. No amount of physical therapy and stretching will help this condition with him. The surgeon suggested cutting the outside tendon and possibly reattaching it to support his ankle. He will know more when he is working on the ankle. If they just do the release, he will be sore for about a week, but then ok. If he does the reattachment, there will be a cast for at least 6 weeks.
The surgeon wanted to do the procedure in March, Bill asked if he could wait until after school was out, sometime in the middle of June. He wants to get his internship done and said "I don't want to spend another birthday having surgery". I told him I would support him no matter what he decided.
This past week the pain is getting worse. This man has a very high pain threshold. If he is saying it is hurting, the pain has to be very bad. We talked about things and we made the decision to cancel the June Disney trip, get the surgery done either right out of classes, sometime in the middle of May or right after his birthday. He is worried that the surgeon will probably do the reattachment and wants to make sure the cast is off before classes start back up for the fall semester.
So we are going to add a little to the November trip and possibly put ESPN weekend 2009 into the mix, before the cruise in Dec. 2009. Bill is a little sad, but we both know it is for the best.
Thank you everyone for continuing to read our trip report.
to you and Bill. Yes I believe our guys are superheros when it comes to pain. Braeton can be smiling at me but if he says he hurts I have learned (the hard way
) that he HURTS!!! Does Bill take Botox shots for his spasms? Braeton gets Botox and it really helps the tight muscles. So far we have been able to stay away from surgery. Now once he gets older it's very likely he will have to have the surgeries, but unlike oral meds, Botox only works where it is injected so B's Dr can pinpoint those really tight spastic muscles and it helps a lot. 1 time he did get a little too much but all it did was make it a little floppy for a while. Botox is not a lasting drug so the side affects aren't permanent, but while it is relaxing B's tight muscles it's making the loose muscles in his legs work a little harder and it all evens up.
I know that no mater how many times you have to face something like this it's still tough when you have to do it again.
I hope the surgery is successful..
Sorry to hear of the need for surgery
Sending best wishes
and waiting for the next update
. I'm sure it is for the best though. I hope everything will go well for him and he can be back at em for the November trip.
Hopefully the surgery will be successful and bring him much relief. Sorry you had to cancel your trip but sounds like it is the best decision for you guys.

for us!
Very sorry to hear about you're pain Bill. Have you tried acupuncture? Can you? Many have benefit from it. Just until you have your surgery.I'm so sorry to hear that-my thoughts are with the two of you.

Please tell Bill we will be keeping him in our prayers.I know that no mater how many times you have to face something like this it's still tough when you have to do it again.
Sorry if I seem a little melancholy. We got another call this morning for a possible transplant for DH. Just got the news its not a match. This was on top of getting his Drs report form Dialysis yesterday and he's not doing too good. Oh Well God IS in control and we will be o.k.
This will just make you anxious to get back to the World that much more!!!!
, I am so sorry to hear about the Drs. report. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Bill doesn't want to go the botox route. He knows from previous surgeries that the tendon releases are effective in relieving his pain long term. He is so strong and brave. I can't wait until the surgery is over. I hope the surgery is successful..

Poor Bill! It sounds like he is in so much pain.
Such a bummer that you have to cancel your trip, but I can't imagine how much stress it would be to have the surgery mid-semester.
The pain tolerance of people with disabilities never ceases to amaze me. Makes me feel like a complete wimp!
.Aw sorry to hear about Bill and the canceling of the trip. I'm sure it is for the best though. I hope everything will go well for him and he can be back at em for the November trip.

.Oh no! I feel like such a jinx! I just finished congratulating you both on your plans and now I read that Bill is in pain AND has to have surgery. But the most important thing is Bill's health and comfort. And imagine how much more enjoyable your next trip will be once he feels so much better! Biggest hugs to both of you and for your November trip. That just means so much more planning time!
I hope everything gets better for Bill and I hope for a speedy recovery for him!![]()
Give Bill lots offor us!
I know it's hard to see now, but maybe time will tell that this happened for the best. Maybe something will happen on your November trip that will be so memorable that you will forget you were ever supposed to go in June.![]()
Sorry to hear this news. I hope Bill gets rid of the pain soon. Last year, we had to cancel our WDW trip because of my chemotherapy. It seemed awful at the time but the trip we just took two weeks ago was the best ever. It seemed that knowing what we had to give up last year made us appreciate this one more than ever. I hope the same will happen for you and Bill.
And it's amazing that he's willing to hold off until June to finish his internship. That's dedication.
Pakey, I hope all went well with your chemo. I am so glad you had a great trip!! He is very dedicated and wonderful

sorry to hear that the trip is canceled but I do hope it helps with the pain.
to you and Bill! I hope this surgery takes care of his pain.
