We have an upcoming wedding in my family and the bride was discussing one of her friends.

She used to eat chicken and fish-then went Vegtarian

Now she is Vegan-which means no eggs and no cheese-and this is a big Italian Wedding:banana:

They are looking into smaller venues (that might not offer diverse menues) and i wonder if it would be polite for her to see if the friend would eat Vegetarian for the wedding-which is easier to accomodate than Vegan?:confused3

Not really. That's asking someone to change their principles. Just ask the venue if they'll make a separate meal. All they can say is no.

no. usually if its plated, people get a choice ahead of time, and most folks these days do offer a "vegetarian-ish" option (which often really isn't exactly vegetarian, but hey, they tried). disney would do some kind of plate for that person i am positive - it sounds like you aren't asking about a DFTW though, right?

i would ask whatever venue you pick about providing a VEGAN option (they don't always really know what that is either!!) for a few plates, which the bride/whoever would figure into the meal costs. if the vegan person is a good friend/family member, i would let them know you have an option that can be requested (all guests really - i choose vegetarian options frequently as they are often fresher than standard hotel/event fare) - so there may be something you can just have as an option. at the least, i would be sure to have a decent salad and some kind of vegetable side that at least any vegan/vegetarian people wont be starving.

sadly, they are kind of used to not being able to eat at events i think, and are used to planning ahead, but it is very gracious to make the gesture.

good luck!

I agree with transfergirl. Granted, most vegetarians/vegans are used to struggling to get food that doesn't compromise what they believe in, it'd be a very nice touch to have a vegan option. And it's not all that hard, really. If most places will try to accomodate someone who's celiac, it shouldn't be a problem to make something vegan.

I would ask the venue to provide a vegan option. My good friend is a vegetarian and went to an engagement party recently where all she could eat is bread and wine..not a great combo! The wine went straight to her head! You could also tell the venue that she has an egg and dairy allergy (to drive the point home).

I would ask the venue to plate up a vegan option, any venue worth their salt should be able to provide one in my opinion. There are vegan friendly pasta's and cheese so I'm sure the friend should be able to have a modified version of one of the main meal options. If the venue if not keen on the idea I'd offer to purchase the ingredients for the venue and have them prepare and serve it how can they say no to that?

I don't think you'll have a problem getting her a vegan option. A good friend of mine is a vegetarian and if she goes somewhere to eat and they don't have a non-meat selection they'll usually offer her a plate of veggies and extra bread or any other sides available. Pasta with veggies seems to be the go-to for vegetarians/vegans at events.

Let me play devils advocate its her friend and she wants her at her wedding. If the Vendor will not supply a vegan meal order one to be delivered by a local restaurant. Its not that complicated. The vedor cannot say anything about this except to serve it since they are not willing to accomidate.

I think the veggies and pasta sounds good
I never realized there was vegan cheese-thanks!:thumbsup2

Its not a WDW wedding-there's just so many wedding gurus here-i thought a good place to ask=thanks!

I don't think you can really ask someone who is a vegan to eat vegetarian but the good news is, the world are BRILLIANT for accommodating dietary restrictions. You'll have no trouble getting a vegan meal.

The bride should absolutely request a vegan meal for this guest. If she is vegan and has been for a while, she may actually get physically ill from eating dairy products at this point. That is what happened to me when I was vegan and ate something with dairy in it. Her body is not used to digesting certain ingredients.

Most venues will accommodate a vegan, but just as others have said, if she just says one guest is allergic to eggs & dairy, that should take care of it.

They prepared vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for our guests that needed them. Then they also picked at the buffet, for the foods they could eat. They were accommodating, although we did have to "ask" on the day, as they were not immediately brought out.

I agree with this entirely, especially the bolded part.

They can't ask her to eat vegetarian.

My best friend is vegan and when I told our venue (which happens to be Disney), my planner was too excited to show me SEVERAL yummy looking vegan dishes to choose from, and we picked one to taste at our tasting, even though my friend won't be present.

Your friend should NOT choose a venue unless they can provide a decent vegan dish and allow you to taste beforehand. Like the above poster said, any good venue/caterer should be able to provide this as it's very comment nowadays.
