It is sufficient to say that yesterday was NOT my day. Last night was my step-daughter's birthday dinner. I didn't start things off right when we were getting ready to leave. I turned my ankle walking out the door (this is why I should not wear heels)... fell, bounced off DH's car and was there in the garage floor with him trying to help me up while having his own meltdown crisis that same day. I was too busy laughing at the absurdity of my situation and trying to downplay the amount of pain I was in. (no I hadn't even been drinking)

Anyway, she chose Olive Garden. Believe me, Olive Garden is at the bottom of my list of restaurants that I like. They came out and were asking about salad, and I made a comment about just keep those tomatoes away from me I am allergic to them, and the onions, I hate them. (meaning if I eat raw tomatoes they will break my mouth out in blisters, just like pineapple) We eventually ordered the entree. I tried to find the least offensive thing I could find..... pasta w/meat sauce :rotfl2:I got kind of an odd look.

Fast forward a little while later... the manager comes out with a plate, and said "I have the special allergy plate here"... then he was like, I want you to be aware there are tomatoes in the meat sauce. I had to explain to him, I was just saying that I cant eat raw tomatoes b/c they break my mouth out. Cooked, they are fine. WOW I felt SO embarrassed and like a Karen.

I made sure we tipped well :rotfl2:

Moral of the story, don't be loud, and be careful what you say.

My sister has a similar issue. She cannot eat raw tomatoes but can eat cooked tomatoes just fine. They should not have been all that surprised, and you should not feel embarrassed. It would have been worse if you had eaten them just to keep the peace.

I find that most restaurants have no problem w/ allergies if you're honest about it. Tell them so they aren't confused as well because they wouldn't want to get you sick either.
Years ago, I was on a trip w/ my cousin and her friends for her bachelorette and one of the ladies is vegan. Not allergic or any specific reasons, she just chose to be vegan at that time of her life. Every restaurant we went to, she wouldn't inform the servers that she is vegan (no idea why), but instead she would ask to remove this, this and that from whatever she was ordering. One time, the salad came out w/ cheese on it and she had a bit of a hissy fit, and at that point I really couldn't stand it, so I spoke up. I told her that she should have been honest and told the server she is vegan. Isn't that MUCH easier and simple than asking "I want this salad but please remove this, this, that and that". She didn't like it, and said "well I told them". Okay then...you do you boo...I'm just trying to help you out. I don't care if your plates got all meats and cheese on them 🤣🤭
