Accident

further, I think it is important to keep in mind that many folks are driving rental cars. you can always tell at the toll booths if you are behind a rental car, because the driver often can't find the button to roll down the window! People drive off without taking the time to get to know their car. I have to confess, more than once, I've pulled into a gas station and didn't know what side the tank opening was on.

It is no wonder- to go back to the subject of this thread- that new visitors often get a bit confused.

I'm also certain that each section of the USA has wildly different driving customs. Some drivers deal with rush hour congestion every day, while others are used to wide open lanes. Also crazy suburban-style shopping plaza parking lots, one-way streets, left turn traffic lights, right on red rules, differing highway speed limits, automatic speed cameras.....

I'm the out of town driver that no one wants to be behind if I'm the first one in the right lane at a red light. In NYC you can't turn right on red, and 95% of the time it doesn't occur to me to do so when I'm out of town.

Yeah, I don't think it's a speeding issue I see that much at WDW...unless it's closing time, then every minivan with a child is driving 95mph trying to get out. :D It's actually more people going slowly and/or weaving lane, and then slamming on brakes. Typical tourist driving. And like I said, I'm not throwing rocks in a glass house, I know I've done it at WDW...more than once.

Anyone have any info on the wrecks-hoping no CPs or anyone invloved in the recent incident was seriously hurt.

Biggest driving issue I see while usually leaving the parks is people forgetting to turn their headlights on. And not just right after they leave their parking spot, but while fully driving down the road. And also not when it's like 5 or 6pm, I'm talking 9/10pm pitch black outside. We usually see at least 1 car every trip with their lights off.

Well, true. LOL.. I was thinking about cars in general, not just rentals. Like I said, I can't remember in my own car that I have filled up every 6 days for 8 years

Though I have rented a car that old once, a company called Rent a Clunker or something like that. They rented older cars. Been a long time though
We had a place like that once as well, it was called Rent-a-Wreck. LOL! Haven't seen them around for years!

I tried to google for information on this and nothing comes up. It's mostly information on past accidents.
:confused3

As CM friend passed by the accident and noted the bus was hit broadside and the damage to the car, she predicted it would be in the paper.

It isn't. As @wilkeliza pointed out in regards to the CP bus accident, news articles regarding accidents and injuries aren't being reported by anyone.

Thanks-I wonder if any of the WS ICMs were on the Epcot bus-that would be awful to be so far from home in that situation.

I have this trouble with rental cars sometimes because the lights in my car turn on automatically. It seems like rental cars never have this feature, so I sometimes forget. One would think most modern cars would do this.

What makes the headlight situation worse is that the interior dash lights will come on automatically in most new cars, so it 'appears' your headlights are on from the interior but they are not. Not sure why they would do this?!!

I know people get frustrated and annoyed at the incompetence of drivers, but 'we' are all there for the same reason so i know i give people more slack than normal! lol

Aren't Disney legally required to report any injury that occurs within its geographical boundaries? Not sure if the roads in and out would be classified as 'private' property etc...

Disney logs and reports every accident involving guests and CMs. There's a paper trail for everything.

What's being noted is that the news media is not reporting Bus incidents of any nature no matter how severe.

oh i see, that is weird, although not totally unexpected given the influence within the local economy

It's not even just Disney that holds that kind of influence in some areas. Our local mall's owner prevents all reports of major issues in the mall from being reported to the local media. They can't stop all social media so word gets out but their in security handles things
