Ok.....this is both kinda funny, and a serious lesson learned: The wheelchair provider just contacted me to see of there was a police report of the ECV accident in EPCOT. I never thought that before. If power wheelchair is damaged by tourists with strollers and ECVs, make sure to get a police report.

A lady lost control of her ECV (Disney Rental Scooter) while coming down a hill in the France area of EPCOT, and hit my 2 month old Permobil M300. I was also run into by a stroller on the monorail platform. Permobil it is considered patient damage and not covered under warranty and insurance will not cover unless I get a police report.

I had no idea you could make a police report for an ECV hitting a wheelchair in a theme park. I don't know what kind or how to make a police report. Nobody ever taught me what to do in this type of situation.

Oh my goodness. I hope you weren't hurt too? I wouldn't have thought of a police report either.

I would start by calling the non emergency number to Orange county police. You can tell them you need to make a police report.

thanks for the link skip i would call and tell them the report you need and if they can do it online or do you have to go to the station,

here the number and info for the their sub station in wdw which you my need to have them write the report due to them being the ones who would respond. if you call while at disney to get the report done.

I have no idea who the person was, or the ECV's ID number.

Try and track them down by asking Disney for ECV renters, female, for the day, park, and time you were hit. Also, if any ECVs were returned damaged for that day and park... It might work...Certainly they keep rental records...::yes::

A good lesson to learn from, but sorry you had to find out about it.

Call and speak to ocso and see what they can do also ask the insurance company exactly what they need the police report to say. Because they can do the report without needing the person who hit you.

How awful, glad no one was hurt. Being the user of an ECV and having driven one all over EpcotI do have to wonder how fast this person was going to lose control.

I do hope you can get the information for the police report

I really wish people who never drove Ecvs before would take ten minutes and go over how to drive one safely with the companies representative. Dh was knocked down by one while we were standing in line. He's 6'7" and 220 or so. So it was a pretty hard hit to knock him to the ground. Thankfully it was him and not dd who was only 16 months at the time. The person driving it had no clue what he was doing and had it set to the top speed and didn't even know there was a slow speed.
Op sorry you got hit. I hope it turn out ok

One issue you are going to have is that you did not get the person's ID at the time of the accident. Now it is all he said/she said, and you probably will not be able to get any compensation for the accident from the other person or the wheelchair provider. Did you have any home owner's insurance that would cover this type of thing?

Second issue - you state that you were hit twice. Can you 100% identify which vehicle did specific damage? That could be an issue on the police report.

I agree that this is an important lesson learned. If someone else damages your property, do not just leave the scene. If the other person does not want to provide photo ID, take a photo of that person if you safely can. Get some eyewitnesses to give you some ID, etc. in case you need to contact them later.

Unless someone was injured, I find it a little hard to believe the Police would take the time, as they are busy with serious matters/crimes.

Just how much damage are we taking about?

I also wonder how long it would take for them to arrive??

I agree. They often won't even take a report for minor fender benders, so I find it hard to believe they'd bother with this type of incident.

I am wondering if Disney security could write a report that would be acceptable for your insurance? I am sorry this happened to you. I imagine your wheelchair is probably expensive to fix. Good luck and glad you are okay.

Calling the police to the scene of an minor accident and making a police report are two different things.
I just had a minor accident (trash falling off a truck and hitting the car) where I didn't call the police, but my insurance company insists that I go to the police department and file a report.

Sorry this happened to you, OP!

The front riggings, footplates, and shoe holders were damaged beyond repair and bent metal.

My friend who was with me sent this to my parents, back in NC:

"Just wanted to address Justin's chair. He didn't hit anything. A older lady on an ECV turned into him. We were coming through France headed towards the UK. As we were coming around the corner to go up the hill it got a little crowded and Justin had slowed down(I was right behind him) he stopped because people were slow and a woman heading the opposite direction went to go around someone( at least that's what it looked like to me) and wasn't watching where she was going and ran into Justin."

Dad took it to the DME last week, so I am back in the TDX. The harness and the seat of the TDX feels strange to me now.

Here are pics of the damaged M300:

The repair cost is actually very reasonable. I just found it interesting that Permobil and insurance asked for a police report. I never considered that before, or been in this type of situation.

Skip they most likely had you do that figure you say it to much trouble and not go through insurance. But next time and hopefully it dose not happen again. Disney security can write a report but not sure if insurance will take that but they should since Disney is private property and they do work close with the ocso. What I like about ocso web site is you can do report in their and they will get ack to you but not sure which one you should use their no damage to a power chair option or even really personnel property. Their was vandalism one that you click but have you other option which I don't think it would fit.

So thankfully the repairs are not that bad and hopefully it won't happen again.

Skip are you sure it was a women driving the ecv in Epcot and not Duffy. You had your have to take revenge against Duffy press charges. He be back in Tokyo Disney faster then you can say build a bear.

Contact the police and tell them you need a police report for insurance purposes. Likely they will take one over the phone or on-line. Don't expect any thing to come of it -- they will file a report of what you told them and that will be it. I have been told that the reason insurance companies insist on police reports, even when it is clear that the police will never catch who did it, is for leverage. If it ever comes out that someone lied about something to collect from the insurance that's a civil matter. But filing a false report with the police is an actual crime. That give the insurance company leverage in case fraud is discovered.

This is so true, you do not need to know who hit you. It is the same procedure used, for example, as when someone hit our car in a supermarket parking lot. By the time we came out of the store they were gone. We had to file a police report at the station, it only took a few minutes. This was before 'online days.'

It is just required by the insurance companies. so that people won't call them and lie about damage. They'd think twice when having to sign an official police report. As the above poster said, filing a false police report is a crime. You can also list your witness.

OK, NOT the same thing but maybe it will give you a bit of a smile/another example. I was at the National Drive in KY, which is the largest gathering for recreational (horsedrawn) carriage drivers. A person in a golf cart accidently hit 2 parked carriages; I was there and saw it. It turned into a Big Fat Hairy Deal! One carriage owner had sold the carriage (it was posted with a 'For Sale' sign) and now the buyer didn't want it. The seller called their insurance, who told them to call the police. (!!!) So the police had to come out and interview ALL the parties including the innocent bystanders to file an accident report.
