hi
Since my last visit to wdw I've had some health problems and now have inflammatory arthritis . I find it difficult getting in / out a bath tub, although I can sometimes do it with grab rails. I know the new studios at the poly have a walk in shower. I wondered if dvc had many accessible studios? Is it mainly the bathroom that differs? It would great if anyone had a pictures or advice?
Thank you in advance

There's not a lot of them but you can book them online. When you go to the booking page there is a check-box below your resort selection to search for accessible villas. DVC has various types - some have a tub with extra grab bars and others have roll-in showers which would eliminate the step for you. 2 weeks ago I happened to be assigned to a VGF accessible studio - with a tub though. And the other HA rooms we've gotten have all been 1BR's I believe. I will be in a BWV lock-off with a roll in shower in April so my first look at that arrangement.

In the rooms the differences usually include space for a wheelchair to roll under both the bathroom sink and the kitchenette sink. The microwave should be lower (it wasn't at the Poly room my sister had though) and light switches are usually lowered a bit. The beds are often lower too (my VGF was not) but the toilets should be a comfort height. Poly website said they were lower but thankfully they were not. The closets will have lower hang bars for clothing that can be reached by a person in a wheelchair and the doors to the balconies should swing rather than be sliders. I have to upload the pictures from my camera from the VGF studio and when I do I will try and post a few here so you can see some of these things.

One other note - the resorts do have bath benches - the type where you can slide into the tub area which would eliminate having to step over the side. Just another option to remember if you weren't able to book a room with a walk in or roll in shower.

If you check out Allears.net, accommodations, they have photos of handicapped accessible villas. Here is a link for Jambo House DVC 1BR handicapped accessible villa. http://allears.net/acc/g_aklv.htm#1bracc then just clink on the link at the top for the 1BR accessible room.

We had an accessible shower at OKW for one night (it was a very short reservation). It was a roll in shower and you could transfer from a wheelchair to a fold down shower seat. It was a first floor villa.
