Accessible rooms without requesting, does it happen?

Posting this from an accessible room at AKL.

We love the room, we hoped for that kind of room being assigned to us actually.

We got an accessible room at BC CL. It wasn't our originally assigned room, per the CM, but it was available earlier in the day and met all our requests (close to lounge, full balcony). It was fine for us and we didn't mind the roll in shower at all; it helped us wean DS from baths! However, I did have the CM disable the automatic door button - DS (4 at the time) would've spent the whole trip hitting it to open the door!

Yes, us when booked Preferred at POR. The accessible room there does not have the Murphy bed, and we only had 4 people, so guess that's why.

We got one at the Poly a few years ago. I didn't like it though because the roll in shower makes a huge mess in the bathroom.

I've had this happen. Not at Disney but on another vacation. We were given a HA room with a roll-in shower. The floor got all wet and slippery. I was afraid someone would fall and break something so I moped the floor with our towels every time someone took a shower. Luckily the hotel was good about my twice daily extra towel requests! When we check-in, I now always ask to make sure we're not in a HA room again.

I was given an accessible room once, I think at CSR, without asking. It had a roll-in shower that would accommodate a wheelchair and extra hand rails in a few locations. If there is an opened handicapped room and no one has requested it for your trip it makes sense to allocate it.

For what it's worth, they allocate accessible rooms even for stays longer than a few days. When we have been given such a room at the AKL, we were on a 14-days trip. I guess they had so many accessible rooms available that they could assign one to us so that our requests would be fulfilled.
