I'm just wondering how easy it is for a person using a wheelchair to serve herself at DIsney Buffets. My experience with other buffets is that it can just be too difficult.

I've been to ONE - count'em ONE - buffet. My DS is in a chair, so I sorta checked it out carefully. Crystal Palace.

There is plenty of room for maneuvering at this buffet. But I can't imagine having to do it while wheeling one's own chair. We pushed him in (side entrance), parked his chair, and then I went and got his food. If he was able to tell me, I could have pushed him around to view all the food and he could have chosen. there was space.

Anyway - experience is limited... but I would say that with help Crystal Palace seems ok.

We go to buffets on occasion and I always grab two plates and if possible trays! Dan drives his power chair while I get the food. Helpers at the end will always carry his tray to the table for us.If they don't have trays I go back for drinks! One time we went to a buffet with the two small boys and I decided until they were indep. we were going to full service restaurants !
Four plates was too much to handle!

Once on the cruise a waiter helped Dan get what he wanted. I am sure you could get help if you needed it at WDW too.

Dan finds it alot easier for me to get his plate since I know what he likes and he sure had a lot of questions from the waiter that day! The waiter was very sweet and tried hard to make sure he had everything he wanted!

I found the Crystal Palace quite accessible with plenty of manuevering room. Castmembers were available to serve me anything I could not reach comfortably. I find Akerhus difficult. Not sufficient cast available to help and difficult to reach. Since I can use my cane for short distances I find it easier to request a seat near the serving area and do it that way. In fact most buffets are easier to handle that way for me. There is usually a castmember available to carry my plate if needed.

the trays were low enough so it wasn't a problem. Good Luck! and the characters were hilarious!

A related side note - When we were at the Studios in Nov/Dec we ate twice at the ABC Commissary. I was in the ECV while my husband got in line & ordered. The CM who took the order from my husband did not know we were together. When I started to look up at the menu, the CM asked if he could help me. The CM was proactive by paying attention to me, the guest, & the fact that maybe I needed help with the menu, with ordering, etc. I imagine if I were by myself & needed help gettng the food to a table, a CM would have helped. I later talked to a supervisor & commented that I appreciated the CM's efforts since this was the first time I was using an ECV
