Getting to the point where we're starting to look for flights and I'm wondering what airports you guys have used. We've only flown into MCO and used ME but we're staying off site this time so our options are a lot more open. We have Sanford and Tampa both on our list of airports we can possibly choose. I've read multiple times that the drive from Tampa is no problem. Any others that are less than a 2 hour drive from WDW (preferably much less)? We're staying at Windsor Hills, MAYBE doing a beach day, and need an airport with rental cars (though don't all of them have that?).

The St. Petersburg/Clearwater airport (PIE) in Clearwater is about an hour and a half drive time from Windsor Hills but will only work for you if Allegiant flies out of an airport near your home. Otherwise it's MCO in Orlando, SFB in Sanford or TPA in Tampa.

We fly into Sanford all the time. A short easy drive, about 45 - 50 minutes to Disney. Small airport and easy to get into and out of. I have never had to stand in line at the rental counters. Just walk up, sign and drive.

The only downside I have found with Allegiant is the flight home (for our city) is at an ungodly early hour. LOL

Allegiant does fly out of our home airport, or at least one within an hour drive. I wasn't sure about Clearwater since I hadn't seen anyone mentioning it before. I'll look into that one too. Thanks!

Ah,Kalamazoo...I grew up there! :teeth: You might also check Melbourne (MLB), but your best fares are likely to be into Orlando or Tampa.

We've actually used MCO, Sanford, and Tampa on a few occasions....have not used St. Pete. However, one thing to keep in mind.....depending on time of day for arrival and departure.....using either Tampa or St. Pete you will encounter massive rush hour traffic on I-4 around the Tampa area. Using MCO or Sanford and using 417, you may encounter some traffic during busier rush hours, but, can't even compare as much as trying to get to either TPA or St. Pete.

Rush hour on I-275 through downtown Tampa can be a real challenge but it's only about 13 miles from the Clearwater entrance onto I-275 to the beginning of I-4 where the traffic will thin out a bit. Morning rush hour is from about 7 to 9 and afternoon rush hour is about 4 to 6.

We have flown into Daytona, Jacksonville (it was a significant savings!), Tampa and St. Pete. Of course MCO is always our first choice when going to Disney! But I will use those other airports if the savings is worth the extra driving.

DirectAir flies into Lakeland Airport which is between Tampa and WDW. However, not from AZO.

BobK/Orlando

DirectAir also flies into Ft Myers and West Palm Beach, they're about an hour, hour and a half away from Kissimmee. :cool1::hippie::wizard::happytv::surfweb:
Good Luck All,

Wow, you must drive really fast. I would have put the drive time from either Fort Myers or West Palm to the Disney area to be closer to 3 hours.

DirectAir will not be flying into Palm Beach airport this year. Their last flight into Paml Beach was late April or early May.

Both airports are at least 2.5 hours from Kissimmee. I *WISH* Palm Beach was only an hour and a half!
