I hate AR. I believe it sucks all the joy out of reading. How would we, as adults, feel if we had to take a quiz after every book we wanted to read just for fun?

It is possible for a child to read above grade level but still have difficulty with comprehension. That could be why your dgs has trouble with the AR tests. It tests comprehension.

Agreed. I have one DD that lives to read, and one that really doesn't like it a bit and they BOTH hated AR.

I would have LOVED AR my kids do it instead of book reports I hated book reports but loved reading. I REALLY hated the book reports we did in front of everyone, I think there are way more AR books then there used to be. When my oldest was doing AR she tested on a high level and had a hard time finding books at the level she was supposed to read. my youngest reads pretty much on grade level and every book he has looked up has had a quiz.
