Acapulco Information

Roberto, what kind of weather can we expect for our May 19th visit? I'm a desert dweller and not used to the humidity, should I plan on carrying some of my own bottled water. I'll be doing an afternoon lunch and shopping expidition.

I know, just a few more days and I can get the 10 day advance forecast on line...but I'm planning and packing that days clothes today. :lmao:

Very hot and very humid, in the day time I would say temp should be about 90 to 92° F and 75 to 80% humidity, if we're lucky and it's a breezy day, it should go down to about 88 or 89°F

Wear cotton, shorts, a cap, sunglasses and have the bottled water, secret is to find shade every where you go and keep drinking water all day long. Yesterday we had a photo shoot and got dehydrated after 2 hours in the sun with the camera crew.

Cor yesterday sounds bad, I must have been unlucky, last time in August 2005, we came in to a rain storm and it was very windy as well, it did brighten up a bit later in the day, but wasn't the sunny arrival we expected.

Could you fix it for a nice Sunny day this time:thumbsup2

Thanks for your quick reply. Most of the excursion takes place at El Jaguar (food demonstration, lunch, fashion show) and the shopping in the open air market is for about an hour...I'm pretty sure I can survive that!

I saw an old post where you mention El Jaguar as a new restaurant. Have you been there now? Did you like it?

Thanks!

Yeap, I was on the pier helping the guys on stilts to avoid falling on the hard concrete, it completely ruined the welcome festivities.

Already sent an order to get some fresh sun shine for the August call, we will pray to our rain God "Tlaloc" to go to the Caribbean on that day.

The restaurant is very nice, typical Mexican Hacienda setting; I have heard very good comments from friends that have gone for lunch. unfortunately, every time I plan to go, something happens; last two times there was a march on the main strip and the road was blocked, the other day we had already planned on going and our guests decided he wanted steak at l a Mansion and this week we arrived too early and called a good friend to open her restaurant (Texas Ribs) so we could have ribs. I will try to go on Wednesday and hopefully I can post back my review.

There is a web site, http://www.eljaguar.com.mx/

Hope you enjoy it.

Yeap, I recommend Caleta, about 15 minutes away calm beaches for children and a glass bottom boat ride to get to La Roqueta island. There is a restaurant I like in caleta, called La Cabaña.

can I take a cab there? also, aren't there two types of cabs?

You can take a port approved cab that will charge you about 9USD or you can walk out on the street to get a VW bug cab that will charge you 30 Pesos (3USD), difference is that the VW bug has no AC, no means of insurance and does not speak English. I always refer our cabs to insure passenger satisfaction.

Very useful information. Thank you.

I am biased, but, for a reason; if you forget something in the cab, we can pinpoint the driver and if you did not enjoy your day with the driver, they have satisfaction guaranteed for tours and your tour is free.

Roberto, love reading all the info you have given us. Wonder if you can answer this. Having read the reports on the DCL excursions, alot were not happy with the places the drivers took them. I personally am only taking the tour to have someplace to sit during the show and perhaps some shade?. Is there an alternative where seats are available without having to do the tour???

Roberto,
I read your suggestion about going to the La Perla restaurant ($14 usd per person) and watch the divers. However, when I checked their web page they are open for dinner. We'll be there at 8:30 am. Is it possible to go to to El Mirador Acapulco Hotel and watch the divers from there - breakfast served Don Carlos????

Thanks.

I've got a question as well. Seems as if many of us are trying to head over to La Perla on our own. That was my plan all along, but now that everyone else wants to I'm wondering if we will make it. How many people will they allow into the non-tour viewing area??

You can take a cab directly to the restaurant, La Perla, pay your admission fee and watch the show, then take a cab anywhere you please. To know the dive tomes, just look at the ship arrnaged tour departure hour; I am sure it about 30 minutes after it leaves, they take them first to the diovers and then to the other places.

If you are the Disney Magic in August, I am sure they will have morning shows; since the Magic is arriving early and leaving early, they will probably start having shows for ship arranged tours some where around that hour.

They have mutli level balconies, I am sure they can accommadate every one, so long as every one does not show up at once. The ship arranged tours are spread out to watch 2 or 3 shows, depending on how many people are going on those tours.

Last time I heard there where 3 shows, since there where over 800 guests on ships arranged tours.
