Spring Break Trip Day 1 & 2 (3/19-3/20)
Montgomery to Orlando (Pre-USF stage)
Our Cast
Me DH (41), DW(40), DD(16), DD(7), DD(6), DMIL(61) and DFIL(63).
After such a wonderful experience during the Christmas holidays, we decided to use our annual passes for another trip to USF. We were able to secure an APH rate of $119 at RPR for our three night stay. I also used Priceline for a one night stay at La Quinta Lakeside ($20 per room).
We left Montgomery around 4:30PM headed to Tallahassee. We stopped at Hooter's in Dothan for supper. There must be a city ordinance prohibiting smoking in restaurants because the inside of Hooter's was smoke free. It was very refreshing to eat without the smell of smoke infiltrating our clothing and lungs!
After dinner, we continued our trip to Tallahassee without incident. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn ($92 per night) which included a very nice full breakfast buffet. The Hilton Garden Inn was a very nice place with comfortable beds and quiet rooms. I considered using Priceline but the hotel offerings are little suspect in the Tallahassee area. We left Saturday morning headed to Orlando. We were surprised by the gas prices in Florida around $1.85 per gallon which is 20 cents more a gallon than our area.
We arrived at La Quinta Lakeside around 1:30PM. This is one of the best values on Priceline. I have seen winning bids on this property for $18 per night. The property includes a heated pool, mini golf course, and many other amenities. The grounds are not Disney/USF quality but not shabby either. There is an additional $3.50 resort fee which is not included in your Priceline bid. The resort is located on 192 (Irlo Bronson Hwy) near the west gate area of Disney and surrounded by many restaurants and stores.
We played a round of mini-golf and spent an hour in the pool then headed to USF for the Mardi Gras celebration. We ate dinner at Pastamore around 4:30PM and the food was very bland. We had an assortment of pizza and pasta dishes but nothing was clearly outstanding. The service was good and the food was plentiful.
We entered US around 6:00PM and a number of people were already positioning themselves for the 9:00PM parade. We checked out the AP holders viewing area and headed to ET, MIB, et al. We ended up sitting on the curb across from AP holders viewing area. The DDs enjoyed the parade and we ended catching about 100 sets of beads between the seven of us. We listened to the first two songs by the Blackeye Peas and headed back to the La Quinta for the night. We were all tired and planned an early arrival to RPR and Confisco Grille the next morning.
