Absolutely Loved Wicked!

Finally, with all of our house mess and everything, DH and I decided to just head to Chicago like planned and see Wicked. I was a little stressed when we arrived in Chicago, because you can't just simply make one wrong turn and go around the block. We arrived about 15 minutes before the show started.

We had great seats in the orchestra area. We absolutely LOVED it. All of the music is wonderful and the story is sooo good. I am now going to read the book. I feel bad that we didn't take my 7 year old, because she REALLY wanted to see it. She would have loved it. We bought her the soundtrack.

On our way home we went to Schaumburg to visit Disney's Doorway to Dreams. I do not like Animal Kingdom Lodge at all. However, I LOVE the villas and the layout. I want that bathroom in my house. Holy cow. They even gave us some goodies because we are members. The thing I was most excited about was getting the DVC ornament from 2007. I didn't get that one. It made my day.

Warning...the book is VERY different from the stage version!!! It's good, but it's very dark and can be graphic...

I love Wicked! Can't wait to see it next year when it hits Indy!

The book was wonderful, but definately not for kids. Very thought provoking though:idea: .

I read the book last month, and I was thinking "How in the world could they turn this gothic, rather philosophical story into a musical?" But I have heard they used the basic premise and characthers, but didn't follow the actual plot too closely. I don't mean that as a criticism, I got tickets for my 9yo daughter and myself for her birthday, and I am reassured by hearing the muscical is less dark and graphic. It seems more appropriate for younger children.

At any rate...I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the show. I can't wait to see it!

I think I might get tickets for that. Honestly, all this Wicked talk and then I see it on Ugly Betty last night...

someone's trying to tell me something!!

:hyper:

We saw Wicked in Chicago, too!!

Suddenly I'm feeling popular... I'm feeling so pop-u-lar...Lahr!! :lmao:

Don't be offended by my frank analysis
Think of it as personality dialysis

We're taking DD to see it on Broadway for her 14th B-day in August. Can't wait.:thumbsup2

If anybody is wanting to see Wicked in Chicago, its winding down it run. I think they are leaving in January.

On the brighter side, Mary Poppins is coming in March!

I absolutely Looooooove Wicked! I've seen it five times in New York now and was lucky enough to see it with the original cast....I got to see Idina Menzel in it twice.....she was sooooooo good. That show is addictive.....once you see it there is liking this driving force saying "come see me agin....you know you want to " I am definitely addicted to that show.:woohoo:

I actually read the book before I went and there were alot of differences between that and the show but I love both of them. I was worried that by reading the book before hand I would spoil the show for me, but it actually made me appreciate what had been done with the story. Gregory Maguire definitely put a darker spin onto the story in his book. It was also a bit provocative in one or two parts. Also the book was very complex reading, I thought, bc he goes very much into detail about the different regions around OZ and the separation of classes like the munchkins and animals etc and also some special terms he uses to make the characters and lands seem authentic. I think the book had handful of different plots going on and they took one or two out of the book and focused on them for the show.

In my opinion if you are going to read the book, I don't know if it would be as enjoyable reading it afterward bc it might seem two dark after see the show. However, with reading the book before, I found myself making some comparisons, but I never expected the show was going to be as dark as the book, so I fully enjoyed the show while I was watching it. So to anyone who does read the book before though, just keep that in mind. Do not expect it to be just like the book. You are right as far as the basic premise and the characters and that is really what you can expect as far as the show. I will also say that they did the show in a way that also makes it great for kids to see too. There is only one or two small parts that could possible make some of the younger kids a little nervous. But I can't say for sure bc I do not have kids. I won't mention it here as to spoil the show for anyone, but if anyone is concerned about that for their kids, PM me and I can mention those two parts that I am thinking of.

Sorry for my ramblings, but I just loved the show and the book....I am definitely a Wicked fanatic

I would not hesitate to take my 7 year old DD to this. She really wants to see it. There is nothing that would cause me alarm for her to see, and I don't let her watch everything. DD's music teacher said she would recommend it for kids ages 8 and up, but she thinks that not only would my DD "get" it, she'd thoroughly enjoy it.

I really enjoy reading books that have been made into movies. I love to see how they compare.

I think you misunderstood, I wasn't saying parents should be concerned about taking there kids to see it....I was just saying that there could be one or two parts that may startle younger kids that do get rattled easily, and I also mentioned that it was great for kids to see. And I wasn't even saying it would completely frighten them, there are just some kids I think could get a little startled from two parts in the show.

And as far as the book, I also said I loved the book, I was just letting the people, that decide to read the book before hand, know not to expect it to be just like the book.

Also I was just sharing my personal opinion that I do not know if the book would be as enjoyable to read after seeing the show. I felt it would probably be better to read before hand.

I think you may have misinterpreted my comments.:confused3

No, I got you. I completely understand what you are saying. I didn't take offense to anything you said. And, yeah, I see where some kids could get startled. I didn't take it that you were telling people not to let their kids see it. I'm sorry if I came across that way. I've heard the book is odd and very hard to read, but I look forward to seeing the differences. Thanks for your opinion. It's amazing how stories are taken from books.

Oh ok, I thought maybe you were taking it as me saying that parents shouldn't take their kids to see it...perhaps I misinterpreted what you said sorry:worship:

i saw the musical soemwhere on the internet!

i just got the book today i love it so far im on page 13.

I'm so glad you had a good time! I really want to see the show again before it closes in Chicago. :(

I hope you didn't buy the soundtrack AT the show!!! The price there is 28 bucks and you can get it at Target for about half that.

NO! Did not buy the soundtrack at the show. They were out of it. But, when I saw the pricetag of $28, I wouldn't have bought it anyway. I was going to buy DD the beach towel, but it was $35. They make Disney look cheap.

Oh those prices are crazy! But they have some really cute stuff! My favorite "souvenir" is the Grimmerie. I actually got it for Christmas one year from my fiance but I absolutely love it! I think it is like $40-50 at the show unless they have changed it, but you can get it on Amazon for $26 with free shipping. I really wanted the umbrella but it was like $30.

Oh my now I want the beach towel! I just looked at it online....it's so cute and I didn't see that the last time I was there. But $35 is steep:scared1:

Oh and I really like the globe they have online.....oh no bad idea looking at this stuff........
