Although I can understand why it might be good business practice, Disney doesn't owe anyone any discounts except the ones they choose to make.
I was in the Trade Center on 9/11, helped clear over 60 employees, spent 2 weeks getting our banking systems up to help stem economic collapse - and wasn't eligible for a thing from Disney. but anyone who was a First responder (whether they ever got near New York) was eligible for massive discounts, free vacations, etc.
Was I irked - well, it would have been nice to be recognized for what I did and went through even though I wasn't a uniformed officer (yes, some people who were not in unfiorm actually performed many thousand acts or heroism that day), but I didn't think I was entitled, and certainly didn't feel the need to push Disney to give me something. An dyes, I own DVC and am a Disney sharehodler as well. I spent more vacation $$ there than anywhere else in the world.
Would it be good business - yes. Was I entitled - no.
