? About Wisdom Teeth

I think my top wisdom teeth may be coming in. If I feel the gums back there it does feel like a tooth coming in and I've been having slight discomfort. When do you see a dentist about your wisdom teeth? My insurance doesnt fully cover dentist visits so I'd like to hold off as much as I can. When is it time to see a dentist?

When you have your 6-month checkup/cleaning, your dentist should check your wisdom teeth. S/he'll tell you if they need to come out or not. BTW, when DH had his out, I had to coordinate the medical and dental insurance to cover it. The medical insurance covered some teeth (impacted ones I think?), while the dental covered the others.

I didn't know that medical might cover that... I'll have to look into it if/when this comes up. Thanks for the info!!!

Personally, I treated my wisdom teeth like any of the others. 3 of the 4 have come out. Kind of like teething again. I have had dentists recommend that they be removed, but why? Well sometime in the future they may become 'impacted' or be a problem, is the answer I always get. I, think, it is because the hygenist doing the cleaning does not like to work hard reaching to the back.

We may not be chewing 'vegetative matter' as much as we did several thousand years ago but our mouth is structured for them so why not keep them.
