I was wondering if someone could tell me if they'll let you pay to have just 2 or 3 nights of a 5 night stay for wireless or do you have to get it for the entire length of your stay?
TIA:goodvibes

None of the rooms have wireless. There is high speed though. Yes, you can pay just for the days you want it. It's by 24 hour periods rather than calendar days.

its kinda of a joke that disney does not provide free wi fi it is 2009.... or even have a hot spot in all the lobby areas ??? even the red roof inn down the street from me has it for free......give me a break its just more of the disney greed in action ........

All rooms have a wired access point. I usually bring along a small wireless unit, so I can have wireless access in our villa.

The cost is on a per 24 hour basis, so you sign up at 10PM, it is active until 10PM the next night. Last time we where there, the cost was $10 per 24 hour period.

There is wireless in many of the lobby areas, but it is a different system than the in room internet. Same cost, same time frame, but if you sign up for one, you can't use the other without paying again.

It is free....if you're a DVC member staying on points in a villa.:)

That's kind of the point. Disney resort hotels are not the Red Roof Inn - they are resort hotels at a theme park. Free internet is generally included in hotels that want to attract budget business travelers. I've never stayed at a high end hotel that offered free internet.

I do not agree with that. This is 2009. Free internet should be provided. :confused3

I'm a frequent business traveler and have found the same thing. Hilton, Marriott both charge for internet. The lower end hotels use free internet as a selling point. Disney doesn't have to give it away free to attract guests.

I agree with the others - the higher end places do not offer free internet. I paid about $16/day for Internet at a Radisson and it wasn't wireless either.

we always have to pay for internet at high end hotels -- in big & small cities, the more expensive the hotel, the more likely they are to charge for everything. DH just stayed in a high-end hotel in downtown Chicago--the internest access would have been $18 per day, and parking was going to be $54 a night in the hotel parking garage (NOT a typo! Can you believe that price...he parked a block away in a high rise parking garage for $20 per night instead.) If he had wanted to use the hotel gym facilities, that would have been another $20 a night. So the $250 a night room would have been $92 more per night more for on-site parking, internet, and exercize room if he'd used them. And this was for a smallish room with 2 double beds. But just like at Disney, you were paying for location: in this case, right in the heart of downtown, near the river & Mag. Mile.

The other thing we've noticed when traveling (we always do road trips, several thousand miles a year) is that the cheaper hotels which offer the free internet...you get what you pay for. At least half the time the "free internet" is actually one computer in the lobby that allows access to email and weather.com. Or it is in the rooms, but you cannot get a connection.

If there is one thing that Disney does not want you to do is sit in your room the whole day and surf on the free Internet. :lmao::lmao:

i dont get you people why do you always defend disney? they can do no wrong it makes me sick .....saying its cool that they dont have internet or hot spots for free is stupid . why would you not want it ? give me a break.. it is a resort but they also have alot of biz people stay on site. thats like saying i dont need 5 fingers on my hand its better with 3 .DISNEY resorts dont have everything there is always ways to make it better why would you not want it to be better? you can never say anything bad about disney witout people saying your wrong . everyone always tries to put a positive spin on everything disney does and dont do.......give me a break

i know they dont have to give it away to attract guests it would just be a nice touch.....with all the money you spend there it would be nice........

It would be a nice touch but you are at the park for vacation. Most people would use it as a luxury rather than a business requirement while in WDW & they know if you want it that bad, you are willing to pay. I know it's hard to believe it's really not a necessity, lol. Anyways, it is $10 for 24 hours, but you can use dial up for free. During our trip I paid the $10 to finish my work the first day, then used dial up for my minor internet fix (looking up directions, checking emails etc..) during the rest of the trip. I signed up for a free Juno account & used the local access numbers. I would recommend bringing a longer phone cord, unless you want to use your laptop on the bed the entire time :)

Its quit simple.
If I go to Disney I am a guest. I know the rules so I accept them.

Would I come to your house I would have to obey YOUR rules. So if you ask me to take of my shoes I will take them off.

If I don't like the rules I stay in another hotel.

Besides, I don't see how saying that other high-end hotels don't have free Internet or pointing out that Disney's a business that would rather have you out spending money is "defending" Disney in anyway. No one said they prefer that it's not there and Disney is right for not having it, just pointing out the facts as they stand - that Disney is no different from other similar level hotels.

Granted there's often a lot of defending Disney on the boards, but that doesn't even seem to apply in this case.

Thanks so much for answering my question! That's good info. to have. If I go and need to use the internet it probably won't be for more than a day and to download pics of my trip and check e-mail etc. so that would work perfect.

Oh, please.

Explaining WHY a company does something is not the same as defending them. Disney's charging for internet just the same as every other high-end hotel company. That's not a 'defense'. It's a statement of fact.

Disney is a publicly held company, not a charitable organization. It is required by its shareholders to make as much money as possible, or the shareholders will force out the managers and replace them with managers who will do what's necessary to make money. This is how a capitalist economy works.

There's no valid business reason why Disney should eat the cost of the internet service they are paying to provide in their hotels.

I don't like paying for internet either, but Disney resorts offer the location and services I want, and that outweighs the downside of paying for internet. You can make your own choice, and book at an offsite hotel that gives you internet.

Considering internet is free at the Disneyland Hotel and the other 2 Disney owned hotels in Anaheim, I don't see why they can't provide free internet at WDW resorts.

They can. They just don't have to. Businesses don't give away things that they don't have to.

The competitive environment among hotels is a lot different in Anaheim.
