From the YouFirst Benefits page...

* All upgrades are applicable to certain room and suite types only and subject to availability. Blue members receive a room upgrade, if available, upon arrival. Gold members receive an upgrade to a premium room, if available, guaranteed at time of reservation. Gold members can also enjoy a suite upgrade for only $50 per night, if available upon arrival. Platinum members receive a premium upgrade, if available, guaranteed at time of reservation. Platinum members also receive a suite upgrade, if available at time of reservation, at no additional cost.

2 years ago as Gold members (hehe) we were offered the option to upgrade from a Bay View King room to a Portofino Suite for $85/night. I think this is because we were stupid and didn't take advantage of the free upgrade to a Deluxe King room when we booked the reservation. So at check-in they explained that we needed to move up a room category (Bay View to Deluxe @ $35/night) to be eligible for the $50/night suite. They ended up upgrading us to the Deluxe Room free of charge though.

We're arriving Saturday and have a Deluxe Queen room booked for 6 nights. I'm hoping for a $50/night suite upgrade. With 4 adults and 1 child, we're gonna need it. ;) If they have it available, great. If not, we'll still have a great time.

Ok, not to hijack the thread, but I think I may have screwed up. We will be Gold level but just booked a club level deluxe room. Should I have booked a lower level room and then asked for a free upgrade? Hmmmm. I am totally uninformed about the whole upgrade thing.

Is there any kind soul who can tell me what my options are? Can I maybe upgrade at the hotel when we get there?

Thanks in advance!!

if you booked club level deluxe room, there is nothing to be upgraded to.

if you are at the gold level for loews, you do have an additional charge to upgrade to a suite, if one is available. (if you are at hrh or rph)

which hotel did you book?

yasuern: I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to upgrade to a suite if one is available for the $50 fee. The YouFirst upgrade is to a Portofino suite which connects to a standard garden or bay view room. Can't hurt to ask about an upgrade to a much larger Villa suite since those connect to Deluxe rooms. If you are going during a slow time they may just grant your request. PBH is the best with upgrades! Good Luck!

NashvilleTrio: I will be staying at PBH this Saturday 8/8 as well. I just got an upgrade from a Portofino suite to a Villa suite so there may be at least on Portofino suite still available. Judging by the amount of rooms still available for Saturday night I would say you have a very good chance of getting your suite upgrade! Just realize that they will downgrade your connecting room to a standard garden/bay view because Portofino suites do not connect to deluxe rooms. Good Luck!

disneyblue: Since you are paying for club already you should still be able to upgrade to a suite for the $50/night if one is available. You would still get the gold club access keys to get you into the lounge. Just like I mentioned to yasuern, You may even be able to upgrade to a Villa suite if you ask nicely since Villa parlors connect to deluxe rooms. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip. My FIL requires a handicapped accessible bathroom and we requested/confirmed a Deluxe Queen with accessible shower, so I know that is really going to limit our options. I'd be happy to get a standard room with an accessible bathroom and connecting Portofino suite, but we'll have to wait and see.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Just curious, are you Platinum or Gold? Also, did you call and ask to get upgraded from a Portofino to a Villa Suite?

I am Platinum and I stay at PBH several times a year. I usually get the Portofino suite upgrade at the time I make my reservation and then closer to my arrival they uprade me to either a Villa or Hospitality if one is available.

We are staying at the PBH. I hoping they'll have a suite available! Keeping my fingers crossed!

RyGuy, I'll be at the Portofino next week. I will be staying in a Portofino Suite(I am loews platinum). Can you please tell me how I could get upgraded to a Villa or Hospitality Suite. What do I say ? How do I say it, and when do i try and get it ? Check in ? Before I depart ?

Any advice would be appreciated. I would love to stay in one of those suites. Hoping for some mummy dust.:wizard:

Wow! A bunch of us are at PBH next week! Like RyGuy and NashvilleTrio, we check-in to PBH tomorrow also!! Can't wait!!!

We are booked in a Garden View room for the four of us (2a/2c), but I would like to see about a (paid) Club upgrade at check-in. Club is still available for our 6 nights as per the online booking website, so I think our chances are good. We are Loews1st Blue (so no suite for us).

I could book a Deluxe Club now for an additional $80/night, but might it be less at check-in? If, say, it is $50 at check-in would that just get us Club access keys or would that Club upgrade at check-in also move us from the Garden View to a Deluxe size room?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am just trying to iron out my game plan prior to check-in. :cheer2:

Perdita&Pongo,

It's is hard to say what your upgrade fee will be at check-in but it seems to range from $50-$100/night. I saw another poster called the hotel directly before their arrival and was given the upgrade for $50/night. I'm pretty sure that If you are in a standard garden or bay view room and you pay for the uprade to club you should also be getting an upgrade to a deluxe room. The club keys at PBH are seperate from your room key. They are gold and specifically used to access the club lounge located off the lobby.

RyGuy - Thanx so much for the quick reply! Your info gives me an idea of what I can expect at check-in. I appreciate it! :worship:

My family will be visiting Universal for the first time next week (18-22) We have a standard room (2A/2Kids) at RPR. I would love to know how we could get an upgrade at check in! I'm willing to pay to get upgraded to a suite, or club, just not too much. I don't want to sound pushy at check in. Any help would be appreciated :thanks:

With two kids your upgrades are limited. Generally, they only allow 3 people in the king suites and it is unlikely to get upgraded to a kids suite as they are quite limited. You could ask if there are any spaces left in club. It is unlikely that they will comp it, so just ask nicely.

They won't upgrade you to a king suite with four people. Kid's suites would best accommodate your party but they seem to book the quickest. They really dont like to upgrade to hospitality suites at RPR unless you have some pull. Club level is also difficult to obtain for free. Don't get me wrong anything can happen but based on my experiences there, RPR is the most difficult to get a suite upgrade. I would still inquire at check-in. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for all of the info! We will give a try at check in- I'll let you know how it goes in one week- we will be checking in on the 18th
