? about the whole DME process

OH that's a bummer about not participating airlines. But internet access shouldn't be that hard to find is it? Even when I stayed at ASMu there were computers there that I used to get online (at the check in area)-- are they hard to find elsewhere? Surely not.. this was a value resort!

(checking in wouldn't be a problem- online I mean. Printing the boarding passes.. that could be a big problem I bet. )

You can check in online and just print them at the SW kiosk at the airport.

I called the number for DME reporting my 4 tags for 5 people.
They are so helpful and polite. She informed me that each book only prints for 4 people and I'll probably get another booklet (but that would be eight tags wouldn't it...not 4)
anyway, she said they are printed by a third party and there was no way for her to check on it, but not to worry, and gave me the steps to follow if they dont arrive.

The second booklet arrived yesterday with 8 more tags with everyone elses name on them, (and two more for me).

My sister-in-law didnt have any tags yet and is arriving the day before us, she called the other day and got her tags last night.

I'm so glad for online information. I'm glad I now know how long to expect to wait for luggage, and to prepare for it. Now I wont be worried or upset.

The cynical part of me agrees with you 100% but the STATED reason for not transporting your luggage until you check in at the welcome desk to handle the cases in which your luggage makes it to MCO but you don't. You flew standby and you didn't clear, you were bumped but your luggage stayed on the plane or for some reason you didn't board the plane after your luggage was checked.

Makes no sense to send the luggage to your resort if you're not going to make your trip and your luggage has to go back. This actually happened to a poster who didn't allow enough time to clear security and had to re-schedule their vacation. The luggage went to MCO even though they didn't.

I already answered this question of your on another thread, so I'll answer here from a different perspective.

Disney needs to know that you are going to get on the bus. If you don't register for the bus ride, they won't transport your luggage. They are doign DME to capture ALL of your money, not all of it. By offering you a free bus ride, they talk you out of a town car or rental car. No town car means no money spent on a town car means more money available to spend on Disney property (and since you won't have a grocery stop, even more money going to Disney). Even more important to them, I suspect, is tempting you out of renting a car. With a car, you can go to outside restaurants, outside theme parks, etc., so there's a lot of money there they want to lock up!

i REALLY don't have to pick up my luggage from the carousel (just go to ME line, no lugging those big things?)
and:
can one just ask to have the luggage left in the room (BWV)? i figured we would do other "stuff" & it would just be there waiting if possible.

Normally yes, in the case of the second question you don't need to ask. Unfortunately there have been a few isolated reports on these boards where guests had to intervene in the baggage from airport to Disney process.

Normally no. (Southwest is not represented at the resorts.) However there have been a few isolated reports on these boards where someone was able to get Southwest boarding passes, from a CM using a computer behind a desk not the resort's airline expedited homebound checkin desk.

I fly on business at least once per week. My understanding of airline and FAA policy is that if you don't board the plane, your luggage will be removed before takeoff. While you may get there without your luggage, there is very little chance that your luggage will arrrive at the airport without you. I am sure that this does happen from time to time, but it will be a very rare thing.
