About the dining plan....

Can anyone tell me the difference between the dining plan & the deluxe plan? How much more does it cost to do the deluxe plan, without wine, & is it worth it? My husband is a big eater & we pay nearly $80.00 when our family of 4 (dd 6 & ds 2) eat out at places like Outback, I'm very worried about how much it will cost us to eat while at Disney...just wondering on which plan would be better for us....any help, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated..

Here's the basics:

Regular DDP is $38 for adults 10 & over, $10 for kids 3-9. It gives you 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack per person per night of your trip. Meals consist of an entree, drink (non-alcholoic) & dessert. If used for breakfast you get 2 drinks instead of the dessert. You can use the credits in order, or time of day that you would like.

The Deluxe DDP is $70 for adults 10 & up, $20 for kids 3-9. You get 3 credits per person / per night of your stay that can be used for TS or CS. The DxDDP still includes the appetizer. You also get 2 snacks per person/per night and 1 refillable mug per person.

Deluxe definitely gives you a lot more food, but you do pay a lot more. Since your little one is under 3, you won't pay for him. He'll be allowed to eat off your plate at no charge. You may be charged for anything that you order for him (food or drink).

Is the dining plan really worth the money. I have a picky 2 year old, who when we go will be 3. My DS10 is somewhat picky so I am a little worried. And can this be added after you have booked, but before you have finished paying off ??

I have looked into Deluxe and just think it has way too much food and has a really big price tag on it. I think I may go for it if it included tip. I looked into it for Free Dining, but it was adding an extra $30 per day per person for food we were probably not even going to eat.

As for the value of DDP I totally think it is worth it. If you eat buffets they have from Mac & Cheese for the kids to roast beef and ham at slicing stations. The kids can eat at any section of a buffet so if they like more "fancier foods" they can have it. If they only want rolls and Mac & Cheese they can have that too and so can the adults.

I really like the DDP because you meals are prepaid for before hand and it is one less thing you have to worry about when you get to WDW. The only item you have to pay OOP is the tip.

I believe you can add it at anytime, but I could be mistaken. We have always done it at the point of booking

I don't know the rules about adding the DDP, I'm a DVC member and we can add it up to 48 hours prior to check in.

It can be tough to decide when you have a 10 year old who is a "Disney Adult" as I like to call them You'll need to look at the menus and see if he'll eat the adult meals and consider how much food he'll eat. We did do the DDP last year when my DS was 10 (and appys were still included) It was tough, we paid OOP for most of his TS meals (except buffets) so that he could order from the kids menu. Then we used his leftover adult TS credits for an extra dinner. He did ok, with the adult CS (even though he never finished one).

The deciding factor for us was that my Dad & his wife were joining us and I knew if Dad wasn't on the DDP he would only eat CS (we prefer TS) and he would freak out about the prices. It made sense for us all to be on the same thing, and it worked out pretty well.

All that to say that you're going to have to do a lot of studying & math to see how it adds up for you

Yes, it's $37.99. If it were $28, then the 08 version may still have value.

Wow, my fingers really weren't working right sorry, yes it is $37.99 I was trying to make it easy by saying $38 but obviously hit the wrong number
