???About that car rental online check in......

I had a couple of questions about checking in online with the car rental. On another posting someone stated that they did it a week before arrival.
My question is:
Can you do it any sooner? If so, what is that time frame?

Also, when checking in, does it just take the normal $300 hold on your credit card or the full amount you would owe for the rental? I would like to have them charge the full amount to the credit card.

We have 2 different reservations right now. I need to cancel one. And will do so after I can find out from this board what others experience has been with each of them. One is a full size with Alamo and the other is a intermediate size with Dollar.We have the rewards cards for both agencys.

If you are using a discount code/coupon or Priceline, you probably can't do the online check-in. That has always been my experience, with Alamo, and maybe National too.

But you can use the Alamo kiosk at the airport, which is quicker than going to the counter (MUCH quicker).

I'm not sure about the other part of your question.
