? about Southwest 50,000 bonus points please?

Let me get this straight...or not, lol. If my husband and I are approved for a Southwest Visa, we will get 50,000 bonus points each, after our first purchases?

It will cost us, $99 each, for the annual yearly fee?

I checked flights for September, the ones we want for our family are 6,000 points a piece. Is there a limit of the number points you can use for a purchase? We would have a total of 100,000 points together, could we actually each get 5 flights for 6,000 points for each flight= 30,000 total for each of us...??? is this correct or am I just dreaming? lol

that is correct. there is no limit on the number of flights as long as you have enough points to book them. There is a $10 charge (its a 9/11 charge I believe) per flight.

You're correct!!! This is a great deal. I signed up for it when they offered it last summer. I got 50,000 points. I paid the 99.00 fee with the first bill. I have not used the card anymore. I will cancel it before summer so I don't pay the annual fee again. For my 50,000 points I got 5 round trip tickets. I bought 2 round trip tickets for my daughter and myself to Minn. for a surprise birthday trip to the Mall of America. The tix were about 3,500 points each X2 for roundtrip X2 for two people. That was about 14,000 points. Then I bought 3 roundtrip tix for me and both my kids to go skiing in Colorado in March. They were about 5,000 per ticket X2 for roundtrip X3 for 3 people. Cost about 30,000 points. I used 4,000 points at Christmas to get a 50.00 Amazon giftcard to buy a gift. I now have a little under 2,000 points left. All in all it was an amazing deal for the 99 bucks I paid Now if I could only convince my dh to sign up too. He doesn't want to open a card in his name

It's UP TO 10.00 per flight. I have booked 10 flights (5 round trip) and was only charged 2.50 per flight.

If you are each approved for your own SWA Visa, each of you will pay $99 for the annual fee and each of you will get 50,000 Rapid Rewards points in your RR accounts after you have made your first purchase.

Now, when it comes time to redeem those points, you may or may not find 5 flights for that number of points. Fares could go up by the time those RR points hit your account.

Another thing to remember is that the points do not include the 9-11 fee, which is $2.50 per person per leg of your trip.

There is no limit to the number of points that you can use to purchase flights other than the number of points in your account(s). You cannot combine cash and points to buy airfare, but you can purchase more points if you don't have enough. It will cost you $50 for 2,000 points.

And you might want to check the number of points that you need. Because you would need 6000 points per person just to go one way between PIT and MCO in September. You will actually need a total of 60,000 points to fly a family of 5 both ways. You will still have enough if you use both of your accounts. You just won't have as many extra points as you first thought.

just seems crazy!! If I would book now, for instance, for September...the fares that we would choose are 6000 points per person each way. There are 5 adults. 60000 total points, like the OP stated..........we would still have enough points for 3 adult R/T tickets for August....that is crazyyy!! (even with the 911 fees and the $10 fee per ticket, that is a steal!)$258 total with annual fee/911 fees. I am signing up immediately!!

The 9/11 fee is the up to 10.00 per flight (which is usually only 2.50). When you purchase the tickets you will most likely only be charged 5.00 in fees for a ROUNDTRIP ticket (2.50 per flight). So for 8 roundtrip flight that's only 40.00 in fees!

It's true. That is how I booked our summer travel. Saved 1,000.

It's true! Dh and I both applied in the fall when it was 50,000 miles and the annual fee was only $69. We've been using the card, then paying it off every month. We've purchased our family airfare to Colorado for our summer vacation, and Orlando for Spring Break. All for $2.50 per leg. We've saved thousands!! It's 1 mile for every $1 spent too, so by putting everything on it and paying it off each month we are raking in miles constantly. We may never pay for airfare again!

When you go to book tickets with SW, they are stating that all taxes and the Sept 11 fee are now included. So the prices seem a little higher but I don't think we will be hit with the additional fees anymore. I have not booked anything yet with the changes but if you look at the fine print that is what I am thinking. I think that is why all of the prices seem to have increased too.

Someone asked about when the points expire. I just called SW and was told 24 months after the last activity on your RR account. So if you have a CC, that is activity, if you take a flight, that is activity. Also, if you have the dining option added to the RR account, when you dine out that will also hit your account and count as activity.

I got the card last year and was just hit with the annual fee. My anniversary is 2/17 but I have until March 1 to cancel without paying the annual fee. If you wait to cancel after your anniversary, you will incur the anniversary bonus points. For me that is an additional 3000 points. So I will cancel on 2/18, I earned 30,000 points this year on the card. DH just opened a new one for the 50,000 points.
