I have never rented out my points on this site and was wondering how it works from start to finish. Is it easy to run into problems? Has anyone rented points and had people back out and you get stuck. Any advise would help.

Thanks

i have no experience in renting. only in reading threads.

still, you may want to read the Rental Primer for some ideas - and sample contracts if that seems appropriate...even though it is written primarily for the other side of the transaction.

as the owner of the points, you have the power. just be clear as to expectations - state your cancellation policy so that you don't risk losing points by having them go into holding status (or whatever) and if the renter doesn't pay in time, you may have to be tough.

also, expect a bit of a hassle such as getting requests that lowball your asking price per point. n00bs that ask for availability at the last minute or for busy times...stuff like that...

I've been on the rentee's end of several rentals. I can tell that some renters have gotten badgered a lot, had the deal fall through, and all that. From what I can tell on the boards, the serious renters seem to know what they want and what they are doing (how many points, where they want to stay, etc). Read all the threads about renting, and be careful. When you find a great rentee, its win win for both of you. I hope it works out for you!

If you have a price you want, don't fall for the "it's my baby's first trip to WDW" or "can you help my this trip special" or "we'd like to only pay $9 a point". I'm sure you can find many people out there to rent your points at the price you want.

Make sure you don't lose track of your banking deadlines. There are a lot of shoppers out there who play one member against another. You'll want to require a substantial deposit right after making the reservation (or even before you make it) and the rest long enough ahead of time so if they decide to back out, you won't get stuck with points in holding. And be firm with your payment deadlines. There are stories out there about non-members who dragged out payment until after they went on the trip and then didn't pay up at all.

Don't subsidize anyone's vacation on your dollar. Unless that's what you really want to do.

We've taken family and friends, given them the lodging for nothing, just so they can come along with us. That's more satisfaction to me that renting to a complete stranger.

However, if you have family, friends or coworkers who might want them, that might be the easiest route to take.
