About rental ECVs, couple questions

I had recent knee surgery and will need an ECV for my trip. I don't want to chance guest services running out so I'll be renting for the week from an outside vendor. I really want the smallest one I can comfortably sit in. Are all scooters for average size people about the same size? Is there a type that's more compact? Also, I had shoulder surgery and holding my arm in the extended position to drive would be uncomfortable for more than just a minute or two a few times a day. Can most be adjusted down enough to rest my elbows on the arm rests? I assume the companies deliver to bell services at your hotel on your arrival day and pick up there on your departure day? Is there one in the list above that seems to be most recommended? Thanks

The individual rental company may have more variety than those they post on their website.

There are scooters that accomodate persons up to about 300# and then for those over 300#. The smaller are about the same size as the ones at the parks. The smallest scooters out there are usually going to be travel scooters with much smaller battery power and I think might not be best for the parks. Otherwise, I would think they would offer them for rent.

As for your shoulder. The toggle control can be operated by either hand once you get used to it. I do that with mine all the time as my left hand hurts most of the time. You can adjust the tiller until it is resting on the seat, if you wish but you won't be able to make turns with it that way. You have to be able to move the tiller a bit, somewhat like a bicycle handlebar. Not as much but similar. You should be able to get it in a position where you are very comfortable.

I would suggest if you are having difficulty with your armrest, take a small pillow or better yet, a stuffed animal you can drape over the armrest and use it to support your arm. I would suggest a couple large rubberbands like the ones that come on lettuce or other produce to keep it in place on the armrest. That's what I would do. You could elevate your elbow and perhaps get into better position to drive.

Randy's delivers it directly to your room while you are there. That gives you a chance to get a demonstration if you need one and ask any questions befor the perrson leaves.

The other companies will leave it at Bell Services for you to pick up.

You can adjust the "verticalness" (I know the word does not exist) of the tiller so it is closer to you (and lower) or further from you (and higher). Just don't adjust it when moving.

I don't know if I am posting too late, but have you seen this company http://www.scootorlando.com/index.html
All their scooters come apart small enough to fit in the trunk of a compact car, so I would think they might be less cumbersome than the "average" scooter. One model even folds up and stores in a vertical position, great if you are in a small room (values) or have a lot of people in your room.

I do not have any first-hand experience, but I have spoken with them on the phone. We may well try them on our next trip.
