?? about possible food sickness from GF

Does sound like it could have been food poisoning. There are different kinds of food poisoning. Definately not rotovirus as he would have been very sick for days and in alot of pain. Also, not to be gross but..... the color coming out the one end would be something your husband to be would NEVER forget!

Congrats on your engagement.:bride: :groom:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has some good fact sheets about different communicable diseases.
Here's a link to one about Rotovirus and some general questions about foodborne illnesses.
One of the "mistakes" people often make with foodborne illnesses is they think the last thing they ate was what caused them to become ill. Often the symptoms start very suddenly, so, of course, most people think of the last time they ate.
But, the incubation period (the time from when you are exposed to germs until you become ill) for the most common foodborne illnesses is hours to to days. Staph food poisoning is the quickest- as short as 1 hour if you got a large "dose" of Staph, but can be as long as 8 hours. Most of the of the other common causes of food poisoning are longer, up to 48 hours. Some (like Campylobacter, at 2-10 days) are much longer. In fact, Hepatitis A can be as long as 28 days. That makes it hard to track down the source of foodborne outbreaks -it's really hard to remember where (or what) you ate a few days ago.
You will probably never figure out exactly waht caused your fiance's illness. And it could be that it was not the food at GF, but reporting it to them at least gave a number. One person reporting something isn't an outbreak, but a bunch of people individually reporting is.

as Sue stated it is is almost impossible to pinpoint the source of food poisoning, unless multiple people get sick at the exact same time from eating the same food, such as a cruise line or reception. Eating in public places exposes everyone to germs all the time. Sometimes we respond with illness sometimes we don't.

If writing the GM will make you feel better about the situation then do so. However writing them will not prevent future possibilities of food poisoning. Disney has some the highest standards for food management cleaniness and I don't imagine they would change that.

I really don't see Disney as being able to do anything else than they did.

My wife was also struck down with something during our last trip to Disney. Immodium didn't help and she eventuall saw a local doctor in Orlando, and her own doctor when we returned to UK. two and a half months later it still isn't cleared up completely.

The doctor in Orlando said it was unlikely to be anything we ate at a restaurant. The reason being that whenever a restaurant serves contaminated food, many people ar taken ill, and all the local doctors get patients with the same sysmtoms after eating at a certain restaurant. All the doctors talk to each other and word spreads around the medical community fast and everyone knows which restaurant was the culprit. My wife's case was isolated.

We may never know what caused her problem, maybe she caught something on the aeroplane, maybe she picked something up by touching a tap in a bathroom. We will never know.

I don't believe that it was a Disney restaurant, because there were no other cases locally at that time.

Ok, thanks everyone. But I really wasn't asking if you thought it was food poisioning or not. I was only asking if I should let it go or report it to someone else. You guys don't know if anyone else got sick so please do not say you do not think it was Disney.I love these boards and you guys are all great but some are answering something that I wasn't asking. That is your opinion and that is fine but I really wasn't asking for that part of your opinion. My mind is made up and that is what I think it was. You guys were not there and do not know him so I would never ask you to determine if he had food poisioning, I mean really, how would you know if you are not there? Come on guys?? I know that some people deffend Disney no matter and that is cool but I am not trying to attack them or anything, was just wondering if I should let someone else know. I only live about an hour from Disney (so this wasn't something we picked up on the plane obviously) and I go all the time.. Sometimes things like this happen and that is fine and I am ok with it now, I'm engaged, that is what matters!! I am sure Disney has high standards but this can happen anywhere- even at Disney. Thanks though for trying everyone. Thanks for all the congratulations and the ones who actually answered what I was asking!! I do really appreciate that.

The reason you got opinions was because of the way that you wrote your original note.

Others were telling their experiences. That is what this board is all about. I prefer to think of it as others telling their experience because everyone is different.

Your case may have been food poisoning but I am sure others could share stories where they got sick and it had nothing to do with the food.

Thanks safetymom for a different look at things.... I will think of this that way. I just feel as sort of a debate or something has started of who thinks he did or didn't have it and that was exactly what I didn't want to happen if you can understand that. I was just wondering if you guys thought I should try to tell someone else or not. I do appreciate all the opinions and I know everyone is entitled to them and that is good... I guess I am a little defensive because it is my new fiance and I really didn't want to hear whether everyone thought it was the food or not. We do and that is that, I am not trying to pursue this in anyway with Disney because things happen and even though we believe it was the food, there is a very small chance it wasn't (we didn't go to the hospital as someone said so we will never know for sure) only to give them a heads up in case that is what it was so no one else gets sick. Only just if I should let it go or not. Well you live and learn I guess and I did learn through this post, if this ever happens again I will report it once and let it go and remeber all the good times which is what I am doing now anyway... I can say this only ruined the day that we were checking out. Sure we missed a few things but we live so close and will be back very soon! I had the most wonderful time in my life... It was still the best trip ever!! Things happen and then you get over them and that is what we are doing. I guess I was just being a little to deffensive so thanks again safetymom
for the new outlook. Besides I made the original post so I guess I just have to take it or not read it anymore right hehe! Thanks again!!

It helps coat your stomach so that you can easily break down hard to digest foods. You can also use pineapple enzyme, but I prefer the taste of the papaya (it has to be chewed). I got it at Walmart - it's $2.88 a bottle. I have not had a problem eating out since I have started using it ;)

In any case of food poisoning it helps to go beyond the restaurant/establishment where you think it occured and contact the local health dept.

They would know if there were others in the same area and they are the ones with authority to do something.
