I just got 150 points and will get 150 more on march/06. Made a reservation using 68 points this December. Now if I want to book for Easter, which is in April do I have to bank my 82 remaining points because they will be used in the 06 year? Or can I just go ahead and make the reservation with these 82 and the balance will be taken out of my 06 allotment.

If you do nothing with your remaining '05 points, they will expire on Feb 28, 2006, and you will have lost them. You cannot use '05 points for a reservation in your '06 use year (April '06) without first banking them.

If you don't expect to make another visit before March, bank first, then reserve for April. You have until the end of August to bank, and watch the end of the month, because MS is closed Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

With your '05 points banked, when you make ressies for April, make sure they use the banked points first. They should do that automatically, but everybody makes mistakes, so tell them and then re-confirm. Using the banked points (which you have to use or lose anyway) gives you maximum flexibility with the '06 points.

If you wnt to use the 82 remaining points for your April 2006 vacation, you will have to bank them.

The points you got on 3/1/2005 are valid for stays that occur between 3/1/2005 and 2/28/2006.

To make those points valid for a stay between 3/1/2006 and 2/28/2007, you need to bank them. After you bank them, you will have 150 + 82 or 232 points to use between 3/1/2006 and 2/28/2007. The 82 points (that were originally from your 2005 use year) will expire on 2/28/2007 if you do not use them. You cannot bank those particular points again, so be sure to use them before you use any of the points that you get on 3/1/2006.

If you don't use all of the points you get on 3/1/2006, you can bank those into your 2007 use year.

Be sure to do the banking prior to the banking deadlines.

There is a general stategy at HGVC to bank forward and borrow as needed. We need to bank before the beginning of the usage year (ie. 2006 must be banked into 2007 before Dec. 31st, 2005). This way you should never loose your points unless you don't vacation for 2+ years. Does the same principal aply with DVC?

You cannot bank any points prior to the start of your Use Year. If you have a June UY, you'll need to wait until June 1 to bank any points- BUT - you have a full 6 months to bank all of your points, 9 months to bank up to 50% and 10 months to bank up to 25%. No points may be banked during the last 60 days of our Use Year.

With banking and borrowing, you could have the use of 300% of your points for a trip every three years if desired.

We use a similar strategy to avoid losing points with DVC, but DVC is much more complex than what you've described. We have to be very aware of the implications of use year, banking deadlines, and canceling reservations made with borrowed points.

I don't own any other timeshares, but I'm sure each has it's unique features, and you have to really know what you are doing.
