? about Pergo

I used to deal with Pergo flooring professionally so I know quite a bit about it and laminate in general.

If you're using the glueless laminate, definitely follow the manufacturers' instructions on installation. I know at least one manufacturer recommends using glue in a water situation (kitchen, bath, laundry), but for their Presto Pergo does not recommend that. Main reason is the seal is so tight and the core does not take the glue, so adding anything into the seal would actually ruin the floor. Each manufacturer may have a different suggestion, so make sure you follow the directions from that particular manufacturer.

Admittedly it's been about a year since I've dealt with Pergo, so things may have changed. I'll ask someone about that tomorrow if I get a chance.

Also make sure you use a sealant around the perimeter against the walls. Water may not get through between the planks, but it might get down along the side.

Hi.. I think I may have been the one who was in the process of getting the Pergo installed that you mentioned.

DH did not want to install the flooring.. so he and kids did the rip up portion of the process. We used Home Depot contractors who did a great job with the installation, very professional too.
We chose Pergo Prodigy at the time because it was the best quality product that HD had to offer at this time. I did check other sources and felt that the Pergo would fit our needs. There are many other brands on the Market..that are of equal quality or maybe better (depends on your needs)

We have the oak plank which is very smooth with no grooves.. my preferance. We also used the glueless but did glue in the areas of possible water spillage/overflow in the kitchen..ie sink and diswasher area... also by the slider doors. We also have the quarter round along the original baseboard, I like how ours happens to look. I am sure it looks good if the completely new baseboards are put in too.

We are VERY pleased with the out come.. we do not try to pass it off as hardwood....it is laminate and has the perks of laminate

SWIFFERING!!! OH MAN I LOVE IT!!! Cleaning our tile/carpet/vinyl was difficult for me due to physical challenges.. but GIRL.. you should see me SWIFFER!! I can do the whole area which is near 1000 sq feet and it looks and feels very clean.
It is easier for me to walk on the Pergo. Also I have a couple of friends who used the TILE LOOK laminated products.. looks lovely.

Dings, Dents, scatches??? No problem yet..

DOGS.. funny to watch them try to run and slide for the first few days.. then the get the hang of it..

I hope you enjoy your new flooring.

WOW!

Thank you everyone for your information.

I will show this thread to my DH when he gets in from working in the yard.

I really appreciate all the input.
Our carpet has been here since we moved in, and it looks terrible.

Not too mention it loves cat and dog fur.
Unfortunately the kids allergies hates it!

I think we may try something small like our bathroom and go from there.

Thanks again!!!

Lisa
