Hello everyone!

I just did a search on Pergo within the DIS confines.
There were a few people that were thinking of using Pergo, and one in the process of having it installed.

Could anyone out there tell me how it holds up.

We have three kids, one dog and three cats.
Everyone but me has allergies. (mine are very mild).
We were thinking of Pergo due to the allergies.
You know, get rid of the carpet type of mentality.

Could anyone give me some advice?

I also would like some help on a new showerhead.
Since we have a dog now, I would like to install one that can be detached so I can give the dog a bath.

Thanks...
Lisa:D

It's a laminate type of flooring that looks like wood. Easier to take care, according to the manufacturer!

We got pergo in our kitchen...must be for about 7 years now. It was REALLY a "new" thing when we got it. It has been through 4 cats, 2 kids (they are 7 and 9 now), and a 125 lb dog....it is still fine and looks great still. (kitchen is about 24 X 15)

The only "knicks" in it are from DH dropping his drill a couple times but they are still not noticible.

I love the pergo. We had it installed by someone for our kitchen and then ended up doing our own sunroom. DH said it was quite easy.

Thanks Lisa.

We really want to try and do at least one room this summer.

I am not sure if we will have it installed or let my DH do it.
I think it would probably be better if we get it installed and he can watch!
That way the next room we do, he can do it and do it right!

Lisa, we installed Pergo exactly a year ago (about 1000 sq. ft).

We got the Pergo Presto (no glue) from Home Depot. It wasn't hard to do, the worst part of it was removing the old flooring.  One of our friends had it installed by Home Depot contractors and they did a horrible job on the quarter round (I do mean horrible). We wanted to save money on the installation since we were doing 1000 sq. ft. We have gotten many comments on the job that we did. We removed the old flooring and the baseboards, then after the floor was in place we put new baseboards in, we didn't use quarter round. It looks much nicer without the quarter round.

We have 3 kids and the floor is holding up great. It's sooooo easy to clean! There are a couples of scratches from DH dropping a steak knife, but we covered it up with the matching putty and you can't see them. It feels firm when we walk on it.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions.:D

Thank you!
What is the quarter round?

Our house is pretty small, so I don't think it would be too hard, but just not sure if my DH could handle the pressure of me watching over him!

We are remodeling and all the floors in the house will be re-done.
We have looked at laminated flooring, as some rooms will be re-done in that.
Pergo seems to be one of the more expensive, and not knowing a lot about the laminated flooring I'm not sure it really is all that better.
I would just advise you go to a flooring place that has different types.
DH is now remodeling a downstairs half bath/laundry area, entrance from the garage.
We were at Lowe's and they happened to have Formica laminated flooring on clearance. We had planned on going with a wood grain look. I did like the look of *fake* ceramic tile better for that area. But for whatever reason it was a lot more expensive. (After all it is all just fake anyway, or at least just THIN layers of the real stuff laminated like crazy. Not sure why the difference in $.)
The Formica is the ceramic look and was *reasonable* at least that way. We figured it is a high traffic/hard used area. If Formica is good enough for a counter top, it should be good enough for our floor. ;)
I think with the laminated flooring we will just go with what price and style we like best. Some have grooves between the *planks*; some don't. Some interlock better than others. Some use glue. Warranties vary a little.
Although DH works with some who have already installed laminated flooring.
One guy had the flooring place lay his PERGO laminate flooring. He claims the Pergo flooring was literally shredding and ripping up their socks.
This guy tried to get Pergo to do something about it. They pushed it on to the flooring company. This went back and forth and finally just to keep customer satisfaction, the flooring company (at their cost) REPLACED the Pergo floor with a differnet brand, even though they and the customer felt it was a Pergo problem. (The new floor they tore up was just a few months old at this point.)
However, this is just someone DH works with and what he was told when he asked around about laminated flooring.
With that in mind, just keep in mind to ask about warranty and responsibility if problems do happen.
I can ask DH to double check this to with the person.

Wow! Shredding their socks! Ok...I have two boys, soon to be 9 y.o and soon to be 6 y.o.
They love to run around in their socks!

Glad you posted something about this.

We were also looking into the "fake" tile for the kitchen, bathroom, laundry and entry way.
I think it would bring the house "up" to a better grade and look so much nicer.
Unfortunately, we did not get to choose anything in this house. We started out renting it, and then bought it.
The lineolium(sp) is very soft and tears very easily.

DH installed Armstrong laminate in the kitchen about 3 months ago. So far I love it, it looks great & is so easy to keep clean.

No help with the pergo. But, we have one of those shower massages and it has the removable showerheads with the long hose. It works well. :)

I had Pergo installed in November. No socks shredded yet!!! ;)

I went to the website. They list contractors in your area who will work directly with you. Found a guy that was pretty well recommended. He did a great job, plus I was able to buy the material at less than retail. I saved a LOT this way. (in case you decide not to do it yourself.)

Great stuff. Gotta sweep a lot, since it's in the family room where all the grass and leaves get in. Survived 16 five and six year old girls at a birthday party!! Easy to clean, no soap.

Good luck!

NOW I know what it is. My parents had it put throughout their kitchen and my son's room. My Mom is very pleased with it.

We don't have the Pergo brand, but we are installing a laminate flooring we buy at Costco in our whole house.

My son's room is about 2 years old - the great room/kitchen/dining room about a year. We LOVE it.

My husband has installed all of it. When we did my son's room it was the glue type. The rest is the click type.

No shredding here - in fact it's hilarious to watch the dog slide across it.

Cleans up better than hard wood I think, because you can get it swept easier - it is so smooth... I just make sure I wipe up any wet stuff right away. Even those little black marks from rubber soles wipe up easily!!

We researched it for quite a while, and looked for the best prices. Costco came out the least expensive and has a 15 year warranty.

I was one of the people asking about this last year. I did a LOT of research on the computer and in person. We went to several flooring places and actually looked at the product. We picked Quick Loc or Lock. Can't remember. It is glueless. Snaps together. We did the foyer, kitchen and laundry. It is great so far. We were planning the tile look but ended up with wood grain and it looks very nice with maple cabinets.

Be aware the cleaning is different. You are never to use a mop and water. They have special mops with a pump spray to just spray and wipe dry. Cleaning is very easy. I have two teens, a big dog and two cats. We have mud a large part of the year. We do have throw rugs at entrances and in front of sink and fridge. to protect from outside pebbles that can scratch and possible water spills.

I would buy it again. We had our contractor put it in and he was happy with it.

We keep thinking about this. I just can't decide what I want. But we DO need to get rid of this carpet. It's light beige and has gone through several dogs, a cat and 2 kids.

I worry because my kids are sloppy. They shower in our bathroom and no matter how much I complain, they drip through the house to their bedrooms. In the summer they go to the neighborhood pool daily and sometimes drip their way into the house. We have a dog that dips her whole snout in the water bowl to drink instead of lapping. And yes, sometimes we have a doggie accident. And do dog and cat nails scratch Pergo-type floors?

What if I don't see a wet spot right away? Am I setting myself up to be miserable? I don't want to be the floor policeman 24/7. We've talked about tile with throw rugs, but it's so hard on your feet and legs. What do you guys think?

Liquid would be a big problem on parkey (sp?) flooring. The laminated should be fine.
With the Formica laminated flooring, both the Lowe's rep and the literature stated that if laying this in a bathroom, laundry, kitchen, etc area to use glue. (Anywhere where potential of a lot of water on the floor.)
Since ours will be in a half bath and laundry area, we will be using glue. However, it normally wouldn't have to be glued.
