? about my freezer..Should I do a defrost?

For a while now my freezer's vents fill with ice and block the entire vent on the bottom, so then all in the freezer isn't exactly totally frozen. The ice cream turns to soup! I've tried chipping away the ice, only to find it returns a few days later. Today I took everything out, chipped the ice away and realized that absolutely no air is coming out of the bottom vent. Will a defrost cure this problem?

Do the dollar bill test on the door seal. Sounds like you don't have a good seal & humid outside air is getting in & the humidity is turning to ice.

Stick a dollar bill along the door seal & close the door. There should be resistance on the bill when you pull it out. If it just slips out easily, time for a new seal probably.

I tried the dollar bill test. Passed.. lol
I don't know what's wrong with this freezer... The seal isn't messed up, it's actually quite stong.

Do a defrost and re start.

If the problem returns it is likley that some of the internal silvering has failed, This allows condensation to form inside the machine which turns to ice. Eventually this ice starts to damage the insulation layer and the problem accelerates.

We lost a freezer this way about 10 years ago. The motors and seals were all fine, but the insulation layer had lost its integrity
