I posted this on the disabilites board and I thought I would post it here also. (I hope that is ok) We are traveling to Disney in July and there will be 15 of us. My Dad is in a wheelchair and I was wondering how ME handles this. I would think that they would have handicap accessible buses. But we were tossing around the idea of renting cars instead. Any thoughts?

Yes! DME does have wheelchair accessible buses. It's very important that you mention this when booking DME.

They have a really cool set up. I was watching while they unloaded a young boy in a wheelchair. The driver was great! The boy said it was actually fun.

My 8 yr old DS is wheelchair-bound, and for the most part DME worked very well for us. Tyler is right, and I will emphasize: Be sure to tell them ahead of time that a member of your party is wheelchair-bound
That's not a bad idea with the airlines either. All of the DME branded buses, the Cruise Line buses (used for spillover) and most of the big Mears spillover buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts. It takes a while to do the loading and reconfiguring, more time than it takes on the regular Disney resort to park buses. So be sure to be on time for your pick-ups (on the return) and to mention that your Dad uses a wheelchair both when making the reservation and when checking in at the DME counter. That should get you where you want to go.

Nearly half of the Mears DME fleet is lift equipped, plus many other Mears coaches. As stated above, let DME know in ADVANCE if you need a WC bus for your arrival and departure and all should go smooth.

Best wishes for a great vacation!!
