??? about Making Room Requests

When staying at Disney on prior trips we've never made a room request; I see no point in it at the value resorts, and our other stays have been through renting DVC points, so room requests have been a moot point. However, we will be staying for 6 nights at AKL this August through an amazing travel agent offer. I understand that the agent technically "owns" the reservation; does this mean that I cannot make room requests? Do they have to go through the agent?

I have already requested a partial savanna view and an upper floor (our room was vandalized once when we were in a ground floor room- not at Disney- so no more ground level for me!). If I'm interested in a specific room/view (thank you, touringplans.com!), what's the best way to go about doing this? I've seen people say to just ask for "partial savanna view XXX Trail", and TouringPlans gives a list of room numbers with similar views to that in the picture. Should I send these room numbers, for several floors, or is that too specific? Should I just leave it alone with "Partial savanna view, upper floor" as the TA noted on the original reservation?

Also... when should I send this in? I have a TouringPlans account, and see that they have a request form. Should I use this form (and do they fax it, or do I)? Should I fax or call? How far in advance? I really hope we can get a partial view room. I know.. .reserve what you want... but it's pricey, and as a partial view would make us happy and they are quite available, I just want to know how to maximize the possibility of getting one!!

I've had good luck requesting a specific room. So I say it can't hurt to ask. On Touring Plans I ask for a specific room and in the "notes" list a more general request as my second choice.

Touring Plans will fax it about five days in advance.

Only your TA can call in room requests and it sounds like you've made your general requests through him/her already, so I would leave those requests as they are. FYI, there are no ground floor rooms at AKL.

Touring Plans can send a fax request for you. What I do, is find the room I like and then include that room in the fax. In the notes on the fax, I would note that you are looking for "upper floor, partial Savannah view" and then, sure list room numbers you would be happy with. You then have two requests in that don't contradict each other. You can put more notes in the TP fax requests than you can in the WDW reservation system, so that's what I would recommend doing. Just know, they will try their best to accommodate, but, at the end of the day, these are just requests.

I use Touring Plans and requested partial savanna views and they picked 2 specific rooms to add to the request.

Go ahead and also use the TouringPlans room request option. No matter how early you fill it out, they won't send it until 5 days before your check-in. I used them this past January and got the exact room that I had requested. When use their form, be specific in the notes section. You will not need to list other rooms, though (that's already part of the request verbiage). It's best to list your preferences in order and with a brief note next to it explaining why. That way if they can't get the exact room requested they'll have a better idea of what you want.

We have seen that some of the refurbished rooms only have showers and no baths so we contacted our TA who put in a request for us to have a room with a bath for our trip in September. He did it as I was on the live chat with him and he confirmed right away that the request had been forwarded to Disney but, as he said, there is no guarantee that all requests are met. Got our fingers crossed and hope that ours will be one of those that are met when we get there.
