? about inviting teens to join you

This past June-July I took my DS6 nad DD13 and her BF12. I had originally spoken to the parents first and offered to take BF and pay for the airfare. They could not afford, nor juggle schedules for their whole family to go in the near future. In the end the parents insisted on paying for air too. The room was a given b/c of course I already had the room. They also gave $300 for food for 8 days. Everything worked out great. I allowed them (the kids) to eat whatever/whenever as well as attended a couple of character meals and a sit down meal each day. I just paid for everything they wanted. Never really figured out the actual costs. In the end I would say it was wwell worth it to have someone for my daughter to hang around with and have fun. Not that a 6 YO brother can't be fun...but he's no thrill rider.

My older daughter is 17 and my younger is 13. A friend for the 17yo keeps the sibling arguing to a minimum! Teenage girls just love to argue.

She checks among her friends for those that might like to go and warns them they will need to pay for airfare, ticket and food. (Basically anything that I wouldn't already be paying for. I check with the parents to make sure it is alright with them. For the food, I calculate $10 for each lunch or dinner that is *not* sitdown, and about $22 for each sitdown lunch or dinner.

We have done this 3 times and it has come out to about $800 each time for 6-7 days at WDW.

It isn't an invitation if you make them pay for it or even a part of it.

Then what is it?? How unhappy our lives would be if we were only able to invite people to do things with us if we had enough money to pay their way.

I tend to agree that if you are inviting someone, particularly a child, you are picking up the tab. It is nice if the parents offer to pay for some of the expenses but I would not expect it or ask for it.
