Hi all. My DB is a cancer patient. He has a cancer policy, which is an indemnity policy (this is not a medical policy like his health insurance policy). The policy covers out of pocket expenses (hotels, transportation, etc) and also pays a flat-rate surgical benefit. The premiums are deducted from his paycheck and are a non-taxed deduction from his gross income.
I know that claims for flex plan deductions for out of pocket medical costs must be subtracted from the amount of medical expenses he can deduct. Does anyone know if claims against medical indemnity policies must also be deducted?
