Last year, my stepmother gave me a week of her II timeshare, which I traded for DVC. We had a wonderful stay at SSR!!! We booked it in February and we ended going the first week of December.

This year, she's late in the game, and hasn't deposited her points through II yet. Am I too late to get any of the DVC resorts for the second week of December? I don't remeber how popular that week is. It seemed like there were alot of DVCers there, because SSR was really full!

I hope she hurry's up and do this, it's killing me that she hasn't done it yet! :headache: I remeber reading before I booked that trip that DVC was really hard to trade into, and not even a week later, I got the call and had n offer!

I'd like to hear a few thoughts on my chances of getting a room at Disney.

Thanks!!!

You're not too late but your chances are less now than they would have been a couple of months ago. Hopefully she'll get moving and you can proceed. Or you can buy your own timeshare and have your own II account.

Most the the II DVC availability is still in Sept/Oct... but there have already been exchanges past December. We picked up a 2BR II exchange into SSR for Jan 3 - Jan 10th 2009 already.

Personally... I think it makes a lot more financial sense to trade non-DVC timeshares into DVC... than those who own DVC and trade to go elsewhere. OTOH... if DVC members never traded out... then it would be a lot tougher for us to trade in. :)

What we do is book our trips into DVC using our DVC points, book airline tickets using FF miles, and then we start an II search at the same time. If the II trade comes through for the dates we want, then we cancel the duplicate days from our DVC reservation... and bank the extra points. It is much less expensive since our trades end up costing us about $635/week in total expense (MF's, II exchange fees, Disney $95 fee) for a 2BR DVC unit... which is a much better deal than using our DVC points.

I do believe that it will become much harder to trade into Disney once the HI properties open. I think a lot of people who currently trade through II will choose to book HI instead... which means there will be fewer opportunities to trade into DVC.

I always deposit my II weeks early so that I can begin looking for available weeks at Disney. Right now all the weeks that have been deposited are in September, so I am now looking for October-December weeks. I would rather use my Marriott weeks to trade in to Disney, if possible, rather than my points, so I can get extra vacations. Of course, I don't have a choice over Christmas-New Years. For those two weeks I always use my Disney points, because of the 11 month window.;)

I would modify your post to say that MOST (not ALL) of the weeks deposited are for September. As previously stated, we have been able to secure a 2BR exchange for the week following New Years (1/3 - 1/10).

Thank you all. Now I have some hope! I'm on the phone right now trying to get something done! Hopefully everything will work out ok and I'll be staying at Disney this year.

Does anyone know what an exit program is? I have a feeling that this isn't going to happen because of this. I googled it, but I still don't know exactly means with exchanging.
