I am going to go to the pet store today and make tags for my purse and carry on luggage. Not sure if I want to make one of these for my toddler?

I have read that WDW recommends putting a sticker under their arm. Is this better than a necklace with ID? We are traveling with 3 adults, 1 teen and a toddler and everyone but the baby has a cell phone. I want to put the cell phone #'s for the 3 adults, plus our hotel name right? And put the baby's name on there? She is 21 months and may or may not give someone her name, and ok yes I AM paranoid but if she would up with someone bad do I want them to have her name?

I'll be with my teenager part of the trip and my toddler will be with my parents and YES she can definately outrun both of them so maybe I have a legitimate concern about her getting away.

Any advice appreciated! TIA!

Yeah, I think you are being a wee bit paranoid. :) It's important for them to have her name, I think, so that they can communicate with her and calm her down. It's better to personalize that experience.

When DS was little we pinned his information to his shirt. We didn't lose him at WDW until he was 7 though.

I think I will definately go with the sticker under her arm - I'm afraid a necklace will be a choking hazard and there is no place to attach a little tag to most of her clothes or shoes. Plus it is super easy for me to print a bunch of stickers here and have them ready for each day of vacation.

So for stickers:

First Name
Mom's name + cell#
Grandma name + cell #
Grandpa name + cell #
Hotel name

Anything else?

I was wondering the best way to do this as well. The only thing I can seem to find is actual metal/silver/gold bracelets online, and I don't want to spend $30 on somthing we are going to use for 1 week! I was hoping to find something like a plastic hospital bracelet or something to put on his ankle...any suggestions?? I guess I am paranoid to, but there is nothing more important than my son!

This is what we use. We write our cell phone number on it, which DD7 knows but DD4 doesn't. I also take a picture of them each morning with the digital camera so I will have a picture of them in their clothes for the day.

As for bracelets there are some at the office supply places that come in a package, I think you can write on them. I remember someone talking about them and I did catch a glimpse of them once but didn't investigate - obvoiulsy should have since this trip is creeping up faster than I imagined!

Wow! I never thoguht to put info ON my child. I like the picture idea thoguh, too. Now what do you mean, by putting a sticker under the arm? I wouldn't think a sticker would stick all day to the skin, and would also irritate the skin as well.
Not sure if I am going to do this now, but it's got me thinking. I may check out the bracelets.

we do the same thing! My kids are now in the habit of posing together before we leve the room for the morning picture! :thumbsup2 They also have the shoe ID tags, we put them on in the airport before our flight out and they stay on until we get back home. We also make sure to point out a CM at each park we visit so they know who to go to if "we" -- the parents -- get lost.

This is your child's safety, I don't think you're being paranoid at all!!

We made the dog tag with her name and our cell phones numbers and attached it to the laces on her shoe, facing in so you'd have turn it over to see the information. We leave the tag on her shoe all the time. She has a speech delay due to being a preemie and cannot say her name yet.

We have also used Kid-Idz through our local DARE program to get an id card & fingerprint kit. You buy the kit once and it's free updates every 6 months until their 16.

I guess I'm paranoid too. Better that then a missing child.

Sorry, thought I was clear. :) It isn't paranoid to want to make sure your child can be identified. The OP questioned whether or not she should put her child's name on the tags because she didn't know if she wanted bad people to have that information. THAT is what I consider paranoid.

We used these on our Aug 06 trip and they were great because they could go on the strap of their sandals or they could wear them on their ankle/wrist. My DD7 and DD4 never complained about them at all, just made sure they were on every day. Well worth it, I should try to remember I have them and use them places at home too! Good luck!

OK!!! SORRY!!!! My bad for misunderstanding! I guess I had my dander up still from the "Disney clothes / ebay debate" thread.

SORRY!! :hippie:

I think I put stickers on the back of their shirts, or maybe inside their shirts, when they were age 3 and so.... I remember worrying about all this too.

I like the tag on the shoe idea. The necklace, and bracelet thing could get annoying, especially if their not used to wearing it. Then it has to come off, then ya' got nothin' .

I wouldn't worry about the "bad guys" knowing their name. Your talking worse case scenario, which means the situation is already bad enough. Wheather they know your child's name or not at that point is probably of no difference. Plus if their gonna steal your kid because they're sooo cute (of course they're sooo cute) they have been scoping you out, and heard you say your child's name 15 times already. So they know it if they want to don't worry. Good part is that we don't all hear of this kidnapping in Disney do we ? Thank God for that.

I LOVE the idea of the id tag on the shoe or the wristbands from office supply. I think I will play with both before we go. Thanks for the ideas. We lost my brother is WDW when he was four. Dad was suppose to be watching him in the bathroom and he wandered out and started following someone he thought was Dad. He was trained to go to a cast member and they were great about contacting all staff to help immediately. So I think the id card is great becuase they have your info right away and also the picture in the morning idea is great becasue they were 12 of us on this trip and only about half of us got what the poor kid was wearing that day correct!

So- I have been "browsing" online for some plastic ID bracelets this morning, and found that most of the medical supply sites will send you free samples!! This is great, bc most of them have qtys that are too high for just a week at WDW! I requested samples from several sites-- so we will see what comes, and what we can use! I wish I had written the site names down for you guys... but I have mommy brain! Just to a search for "Plastic ID bracelets" and all sorts of goodies come up!!

.

I did the heart shape dog tag as well. I thought alot about what to put on it but ended up with:

"child's name"
Please call Dad (his name)
cell # 222-222-2222

it stayed on the shoe all week and I still use it if I am at a crowded place.

Several years ago when we took our nieces (2 and 4 at the time) we were told that the first thing CM's do with a lost child is check their pockets for identification papers. So we included a note with our names, cell phone numbers and resort info that we pinned inside the girls pockets. You might want to contact someone at Disney to see if there is a standard procedure for trying to identify a lost child. I pray you won't need it but it's always best to plan ahead.

I think the reasoning for doing a sticker under the arm (on the shirt not on the skin) is that it is an inconspitious (sp?) area not likely to get wet or where a toddler is always tempted to pick it off. And under the arm, then they don't have to look under the shirt. This suggestion came directly from Disney.

As far as pet tags - I got some today at Petco for my purse and the kids carryon bags. The smallest round ones were $7 and didn't have enough space - I fit in my name, city state zip, phone #. The bone shaped ones had room for lots more info but the kids didn't want those LOL! $7 seemes pretty steep - I thought I had seen them for less elswhere but can't remember where.

Thanks for all the replies - great ideas everyone.
