? about Holiday Inn Maingate Universal

We were thinking of booking this hotel for our first trip to US/IOA but I have read some really bad reviews and now wondering if we should pick another hotel. I thought I had read that his particular hotel was doing some billion dollar renovation but maybe I'm mistaken. Has anyone stayed at this place recently and could give me an honest review? I know that you have to read reviews and take them for what they are but there were quite a few bad ones! I had looked at the Universal hotels but I just don't see the justification in their prices even with the FOTL pass (only our DD rides and we will have friends there that she can ride with so we're thinking of buying the express pass just for her when we get there). We really don't want to pay an arm and a leg to sleep at night or to relax for a day or so at the hotel/pool. Any other recommendations for a nice clean hotel for the week? TIA
