My DS almost 3 is 40 inches with his shoes on, they are not extremely high shoes either, just skechers. Has anyone been recently and seen if CM's are asking you to take the child's shoes off to check their height. I haven't been in a couple of years and just wondering how strict they are with the height requirement. If he doesn't have his shoes on, he is a hair shorter than 40 inches.

I have never seen them ask them to take off their shoes, but my son has been measured several times when he was right at the 40 inch mark (I guess making sure we didn't just sneak by the CM at the line entrance).

My son barely made the mark in December - but he was never asked to take his shoes off! :cool1:

If kids are wearing visibly platformed shoes -- those huge platform flip-flops, for example, or any type of visible heels -- they'll be asked to take them off if they just barely make the height. So, if you have a daughter wearing 2" platform sandals and she just hit the height bar, they'll ask her to remove the sandals and measure again. If, however, the kids are in normal-looking shoes without obvious "heightening properties", they're not likely to be asked to remove them.

Watch out how you're measuring at home. We just got back and at home DS was just shy of 41 inches with shoes on. In the parks with shoes on he was just over the 40 inch mark. I would say there was a difference of about 3/4 inch. He had on normal tennis shoes and was never asked to take them off. As an aside, I was shocked at how many times he was able to walk on a ride without being measured!!! He probably went on the 40 inch rides at least 25 times total during the course of 5 days and was only measured maybe 8 of those times, with most of the measuring being done at the tail end of our trip. I was shocked they weren't more strict with checking his height.

Not every thrill ride has the 40 inch restriction. Some have 42 or 48, but that is mostly the rides at MGM, like Rockin Roller Coaster or Tower of Terror. Just make sure you are honest when dealing with the CM's. If the kid is too short, and you are obviously trying to hide the small child in a pack of your other family members, you'll probably get picked to be measured. There are restrictions for a reason, the safety of everyone! The good CM's will check every child, and check them accurately, but its sad that so many kids fall through the cracks. Just remember, even though your child might be the 40 inches, doesn't mean they should ride. You should be the final decision point.

Thanks guys. My main concern is Star Tours. My DS almost 3 is obsessed with Star Wars thanks to DH. This is really the only ride I would like for him to ride with the 40" height restriction. I would never dream of taking him on Tower of Terror or Splash Mountain. I think some of the rides that have a 40" requirement really should be more like 46". He is quite the daredevil and probably would ride it, but he is still my baby and I would never be so stupid as to put him in any kind of jeopardy. After all, have you ever ridden Goofy's Barnstormer. I think that is worse than Star Tours, that is quite a rugged little coaster and the Height Restriction is much less.

I guess I'll find out in 3 days if my DS is tall enough, I am packing as we speak. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

::MickeyMo Your son will love Star Tours - and I agree with you that the Barnstormer is much more jerky and dangerous than some of these 40 inch height requirement rides. By the way - my 4 year old loved Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Test Track. He was just tall enough to ride this past December. Not trying to persuade you or anything, but if he meets the height requirement and wants to rides them - then giving these rides a try might be a blast! I also felt very secure with how my son fit into the ride itself especially Splash Mountain and Test Track. On Big Thunder Mountain I held onto his leg the entire time! He kept telling me to let him go, but you know how Moms are!

:cheer2: Have a great trip to see Mickey!
