Does Disney hold a certain amount of DVC rooms for public use? When I go to their website, they show studio availability for several resorts the wk in May that we are traveling, but when attempting to get points on the rent/trade boards, I'm told there is nothing available. Does Disney hold them up to a certain time and then release them for DVC members? Just curious. :goodvibes

Yes, Disney retains ownership of a very small percentage of the inventory at each resort, and that's generally available for cash reservations. Since it's not owned by the members, that inventory isn't available for points booking.

May 2011 is really, really short notice for DVC reservations. Most members book at 7-11 months out.

Any room not booked by DVC Members 60 days out is given to Disney for cash Guests.

:earsboy: Bill

In addition to points owned by DVD, whenever a DVC member uses their points for non-DVC stays (like the Disney cruise or a stay at the Poly), those points are then used for cash reservations and are no longer available using DVC points. The majority of villas available for cash reservations (at sold out resorts) are from that source.

So they have already been booked on points (and traded to the other location) and cannot be booked on points a second time.

Trying to book for May at the end of March is pretty late DVC-wise.

Keep trying Due to some weird stuff I decided very last minute to try to plan a trip - so at about a week out I started calling to see what was available for 11th of march through 19th nothing, nothing and after several calls over 3 days I finally ended up at the Beach Club for the 1st six days -So it can be done they told me over and over there was nothing at all and a few times 2 days here or there (AK-WL Saratoga) but then one morning bingo I got all 6 days in a row - :banana:I felt so victorious and truly like I got a little of that Disney magic -And seriously this was less than a week out -
:wizard:GOOD LUCK !

Well, all the wait lists were cancelled by then and someone must have cancelled their reservation. But I'd hate to wait until a week out to make sure I had a reservation.

Just got BLT this morning with holding points, so inside 60 days was how I had to book.

There was availability at about 4 resorts - BLT, BWV, SSR, and OKW. I was looking over a 2 week span - May 14 to May 27.

I agree it is late, but it is not impossible.

Getting a full week - 7 days - from someone on the rent trade board may be nearly impossible! I reread your post and I must add this comment. If you are very flexible, you may be able to get a week that way by agreeing to piecing it together and doing a split stay - moving after a few days to a different resort. I was able to get 4 nights at BLT, but a full week was not available at any resort.

There is always a possibility of getting an unsold night close to arrival, but that is not something I'd bank on as an owner, let alone a renter.

It was an extremely last minute decision - So I knew my chances weren't good before I called and was prepared either way to go or stay home -I got lucky and got a little much needed pixie dust !
I didn't even bother posting about trying because I knew it was almost impossible and I figured you guys would think I was nuts -But hey it doesn't hurt to ask ......5 or 6 times :rotfl2: LOL
I will defiantly be making my reservation for next year next month ! :goodvibes
