We are staying at AKV and VWL in Sept/Oct. We have a very active 2YO that loves to open doors, ect. I'm really concerned about him opening the door that leads to the balcony. Of course, we will be watching him, but every once in awhile, he'll crawl out of bed while we are sleeping. What kind of safety device, if any, other than the basic lock do they have on those doors? What kind of doors are they, that way I can bring something from home? DH says "Don't worry, it's Disney. The place is full of kids and I'm sure they make sure nothing can happen."

I'm not worried about the front door as I'm sure they already have that safety latch that all hotels have. But what about the "back" door?

TIA
Carmen

If I remember correctly the locks are well above the reach of a 2 yo and the doors are fairly heavy so even if the lock is off it would be hard for a child that age to slide it.

We just got back from a week at VWL and there was a double lock on the balcony door -- one at waist level and one much higher that only an adult could reach.

Have a fabulous time! VWL is pure magic.:)

There should be a pin lock on the balcony door that is well out of the reach of a toddler. However, don't forget to check the windows. During our last stay in VWL one of the windows in the 2nd bedroom would not properly latch. We called maintenance and they fixed it.

I noticed a heavy door frame at the bottom of the door somewhere. It was about 2" tall and easy to trip over. Do you guys know what I'm talking about?

I don't know if that would be a hazard for a 2 year old, but it is definitely a hazard for clumsy 39 year olds that don't watch where they are going.

I also agree that the doors are quite heavy and wonder if a child could get their hands caught in the back side of the door. Ouch!

I think there would be 0% chance of a 2 year old child getting up and over the balconies.

Good to hear! Although Cameron amazes me daily on things that he can move, pick up, ect, it sounds that even our CamBam (MIL nickname she got from BamBam on the Flintstones) won't be able to open the door.

Thanks for all the info!

I wonder if you couldn't use the plastic things that you use on kitchen cabinets (the 2 piece thing) ? I don't remember the name but I would imagine you could attach it to the two door knobs possibly?

This is a little off topic- but is there a balcony off of the 1 bedroom, and the living room in the 1 bedroom villas??
