If we are using the DME, but planning on taking our own luggage, do we still need to make a reservation for DME?

Thanks so much!

If you plan to use DME at all you should reserve it. You will also need to be assigned a pickup time for the return trip. You can't just walk up at your resort and get on a DME bus to the airport.

Ok, thanks. How soon in advance should you make your reservations? We are going in Sept.

Do you need luggage tags to use the baggage delivery service? Then you should register at least a couple of months ahead. I'd register as soon as you know your flight numbers so you don't forget.

I would highly recommend that you use the ME luggage service if you can. In another post you mention flying with delta so it is available. I really can not think of a reason to not use it except to burn calories.

Knowing that you don't fly often it may not make sense. But you'll have to trust me that it is the way to go.

Incoming luggage service (for which you need the tags) is available with all airlines. You don't need luggage tags for the return.

To get the yellow baggage tags on time it is suggested you make your DME reservation at least 2 weeks in advance of going.

If you did not get your baggage tags on time, DME will still take your baggage from any airline to the resort*. Show your airline claim checks to the welcoming area clerk.

Reservations are also needed going home. If you reserved DME round trip, the return trip scheduling may be done when arriving. In all cases the return trip must be reconfirmed on the morning of the day before checkout. The paper with your bus assignment delivered to your room is the reconfirmation unless you need to change it.

* After 10 PM all guests must get their baggage from the carousels.

Just an editorial note....
DME isn't a luggage delivery service, it is a guest delivery service. So, it doesn't matter whether or not your luggage is being handled by DME when it comes to reservations.

All guests that wish to avail themselves of this service need to make advance reservations...whether or not they are using the luggage delivery perk. Personally, I can't imagine not useing the luggage delivery part of DME. Perhaps I would leave my bags untagged and get them myself if I were arriving into MCO after 8pm. Otherwise, I let DME take care of them. It is soooo nice to just get off the plane and head to the DME counter and not have to lug those bags around the airport.

You must make a reservation prior to arriving at MCO if you want DME to transport you from MCO to WDW. That's a requirement as per Disney's contract with the airport.

Inbound luggage delivery is a service that has so much value that numerous posters using a car service or renting a car ask about taking advantage of DME for luggage only.

Thank-you all! I guess I will just let them take my luggage. You guys are the experts, so I will trust ya! :)

Just be sure to pack a carryon bag with anything you will need for the first 6 or so hours of your trip. That way, you can change your clothes when you get to the resort, you can go for a swim, you can head right to a park..whatever. That way there is no need to sit around, waiting for your checked bags to arrive. That has always worked out great for me.

As for when to make your DME reservations, I would do it now. That way, you won't forget. Lots of people figure they have plenty of time...then, they suddenly remember about a week before departure, that they haven't booked DME yet!! Do it now and then forget about it. You should get your DME info packet, with vouchers and luggage tags, about a month before you leave.
