? about DL Dining

Hello Disneyland gurus,

I'm an avid WDW visitor, but business has brought me to the West Coast. And as a Disney enthusiast I can't come to the LA area and not hit Disneyland. Since I'm flying for business I couldn't get a room on property due to cost, but I'm at the Fairfield Inn right on Harbor (anyone have any info good or bad). My question was I wanted to try and do some sit down dinners, but I don't know what the good places are at DL. I will be there this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... Please post up your thoughts and I hope to call to try and make PS for some of your suggestions. I'm not a picky eater, just want to do something nice, sit-down, for dinner.

I stayed at the fairfield in Dec. 2003. It was fine. Nothing spectacular, but it was clean and close- our main requirements!

Sit down meals at DL are pretty limited. Blue bayou is currently closed. That leaves Carnation Cafe as the only Disneyland sit down. The food and service are pretty good, but its more "cafe" style food. Nothing upscale- like steak or seafood.

In DCA you are looking at: Ariels for a character meal with princesses. More of an experience then a fine meal. Or Vineyard room, its the most upscale of the places I've listed. My husband just went to a private party there. He said the food was pretty good. The offer pastas, seafood, salads, etc, with wines to go with.

Hotels: DLH- Granvilles- steak house, nice quiet place Hooks point- havent been there but have heard good things about it. Both Granvilles and Hooks seem to have a good selection of meat, seafood, salads, pastas, etc.

GC- Napa Rose- probably the nicest place on site. Very nice meal with great wines. The menu is all a bit different, so if you are looking for a "meat and potato" meal, this is not your place. Storytellers- more low key, family friendly. Offers dinner buffet with prime rib or menu service. Has a pretty good selection things.

PP- Yamabuki- Japanese food. I've heard its good, havent tried it. Pacific Coast Grill- ate there about 5 years ago. The food was good at that time. I dont know that its worth the walk to PP to eat there.

There are a lot of nice restaurants at the Disneyland Resort. In the past, Storytellers Cafe was our family favorite, but I think that has changed to the Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great. Tortilla Jo's offers good food, too. I haven't been to Catal, but people say it's good. The jury is still out for La Brea Bakery - I've enjoyed breakfast there, but still undecided about lunch. The Golden Vine Trattoria is nice at DCA. I also like the food at the Plaza Inn on Main Street. Their fried chicken is delicious, as is their pasta, pot roast, & cobb salad.

If you are looking for decent dining outside the park, try Mimi's Cafe, between the Fairfield and Howard Johnson - walking distance.

Fairfield Inn is very nice. Have stayed there numerous times.

My parents and brother have stayed at the Fairfield and have said it's fine. There is a nice restaurant right next dooor called Mimi's. I know it's not in the parks, but it's good food, reasonable prices. We left the parks to eat there last week and were very pleased.

Just got back on Thursday from our first trip and we ate at the following sit down locations.

Storyteller's in the GC...breakfast and lunch. For breakfast DH and I ate the buffet...it was good, but DS ordered the steak and eggs off the menu and we decided he had the better choice. Lunch was good! Nice choices and reasonable. We planned to go back for a second lunch, but timing didn't work.

House of Blues Gospel Brunch...this was one of the best buffets we've ever eaten. I had only 2 complaints, which were minor...the gravy for biscuits wasn't very warm...might have been because we were some of the first thru the line and the brownies on the dessert bar were slightly hard as if they'd been sitting there too long and dried out. Plus the show was very enjoyable!

Wine Country Trattoria...dinner, which was very disappointing as there wasn't a good selection. The lasagna DS had did taste quite good though, but everything else left something to be desired.

Tortilla Jo's...dinner, we weren't impressed as we have a fantastic Mexican restaurant at home. I did like the Coco Mojito though...best part of the meal.

Granville's in the Disneyland Hotel...breakfast and dinner, which both were superb! We greatly enjoyed these meals! The decor, the service, the lighting (bright at breakfast and soft for dinner), and of course, the food. The food was prepared very well and tasted so good!

Naples in Downtown Disney for lunch was great! DH and DS both had pizzas...crisp and delicious! The pasta I had was great!

Of all these, we decided we liked Granville's best, Naples was second, but House of Blues had the best buffet.
